Can you not just send a screenshot? But I dunno what you want me to tell you. He put the ball in for Ohio's goal, and he assisted Fabio. EDIT: Finally found it, it says he has 1 assist. So it's not counted one of the two for whatever reason.
Not too sure about that, he’s been steady but not spectacular. And £4m is a massive fee for us to be paying. I’m not sure what he’s shown so far represents value for money at that price however he is a good player and I do think he could step it up. I definitely wouldn’t be calling it nailed on and if I was involved in the management I’d be pretty torn with that fee and looking at how much investment is required in the rest of the squad. Personally I would say as things stand he’s more likely to be at Luton than with us next season for that reason.
There's zero chance he's with Luton. If for whatever reason we don't sign him, Luton will sell him to someone else. Boro might go in for him again.
I think Giles has been better than he's given credit for and would sign him, but I think it's naive to think it's all but guaranteed on the basis that we only pushed back the permanent signing to the summer for FFP reasons. We did something similar with Nathan Baxter and then ended up changing our mind on him and not following through after all.
I don't think we did the same with Baxter (he was brought in on loan under the Allams was he not?), but to be fair in that case we didn't proceed because he was injured, which I qualified about Giles in my initial post on the deal. Barring a serious injury, a deal like this happens 99% of the time. It's not an outlandish option like Vinagre was, it's a pretty reasonable fee given the nature of our other spending, in a position we've been desperate to fill, and the player who has come in has done well.
Well I just meant I think there is more chance we will not take the offer at £4m as things stand. But as always TWT.
Definitely true, have you seen it happening yourself? I've been critical of Connolly this season and he's definitely been a headache for the club due to his desire etc. but not so sure on the on the piss fighting stuff.... But nothing surprises me
I thought Giles had a very poor game on Friday. One decent run and that was it. He was targeted from the first minute. They must have played against him before. £4m for someone who can't defend? No way.
I quite like Giles, but £4m is a fair amount of money to spend on a LB when we will have other gaps to fill elsewhere and when we now have Jacobs and Furlong for that position already. I too question whether it would be sensible use of £4m. Infact, I wonder how serious we were with any intention of signing him permanently, as surely the club knew they had a decent option already with Jacob once he was over his injury, with Furlong (who is not exactly a youngster) brought in to develop as a back up. I get we needed to bring in a LB for the first half of this season, but not beyond. As said, I like Giles, nothing against him whatsoever; simply a question of where best to spend FFP limited money
Do you mean Vinagre? We didn't have Giles in the first half of the season. I don't think going into next season with just Jacob and Furlong as options would be sensible if we're serious about promotion. 4m is a snip if we're bringing in 25m+ from Philogene and/or Greaves.
No, we needed a LB first half of the season (Vinagre), but did we in January? We had Jacob available and saw how decent he is (which the club must have known!), as well as Furlong. Was it the best use of a slot and more money in January, and will it be the best use of £4 mill in summer? As said, nothing against Giles. He's decent.
How decent is Jacob? He was adequate but not good enough to be a first choice LB for a promotion chaser. I remember when we all thought Fleming was decent.
It's a no brainer. We struggled for a LB for 18 months, we've now got one and with the summer sales it's a reasonable fee. The LB market is limited, we aren't getting anyone better for the same fee and I don't want another temporary solution where we're back to square 1 in 12 months.
