Aye if it was someone out of work then I would be confused as to why they haven’t just been brought in already.

Very uninspiring but would get results. Mind you, I said that when we appointed Grayson so clearly I know **** all.

Why the negativity about Heckingbottom? Lost on me.

He took that Sheff Utd side up with some attacking football. 91 points, plenty of goals scored. His win rate over his time at Sheff Utd was 50%. They lost better players once promoted so was always going to be a slog.

He is still a young coach in his mid 40s. He did a pretty good job first time up at Barnsley. Leeds was maybe a club too soon but he seema to have learnes from the experience. I think he showed a lot of resilience at Sheff Utd.

Personally think he would be a good fit. Experience of this division, recent promotion from it, enough experience to help the young lads through challenging times and he seems quite clear minded to me.

I have a suspicion Nixon is barking up the wrong tree, but if it were Heck than all good with me.

Im just not impressed by him at all

Tactically has no plan B, very rarely changes a game with his subs, the football was very slow n 1 paced and he doesnt really improve players

All about opinions but i think he would be a poor appointment

Was listening to What The Falk podcast this morning reviewing Fridays game and Heckingbottom was mentioned on there. I know Graham Falk is a journalist so I wonder if he's heard anything

I always wonder when we say a coach has no plan B. It was levelled at Mowbray but I dont really know what folk think a plan b is.

I have never seen a coach who doesnt try different things in a rough patch. Mowbray was trying things, Hume rolling into midfield, Huggins driving into the final 3rd, narrowing the pitch out of possession etc. They were all tactical changes. If we want to see coaches completely switch formations I think that is quite an ask and probably unrealistic. Generally speaking a side is designed around a style of play, like we are. You coach shape week in week out, jumping to a different shape suddenly isnt really feasible, and less so with a young squad.

I think if a coach can think on their feet in a game, and tweak a position to counteract the opposition, or change an instruction to exploit a weakness that is the sort of flexibility we should look for, in my opinion anyway.

Having a plan B is being able to make in game changes to impact the result. Heckingbottom struggles with that.

Whether thats with his subs, tweaking tactics to exploit a weakness in an opponents set up (during game), changing formations etc to get a key player on the ball more

As i said its all about opinions but i think he would be a really poor appointment

    That's absolute nonsense imo.

If he was our number 1 target he'd have been here by now and would be in the stands tomorrow.
If he was our top choice he'd have been interviewed along with Beale, he'd have been No2 then,

You'd guess that the club are trying their time having had to rush previous appointments.

You'd also guess the previous few weeks have been informal soundings out of who'd want to come.

I'd guess that proper interviews, away from the SOL, will start on Tuesday but, if the new manager is employed I think they'd see out the season as it's only 6/7 weeks away. I was asked by someone totally unconnected with Sunderland, this weekend, when the French Ligue finishes and I had no idea ...

... fortnight after Sunderland's as it happens.

If he is number 1 target it may be down to severance pay terms at Sheff Utd he wont join now. Guesswork on my part.

Was his squad full of experienced pros with a smattering of U23's?

If he's more interested in his garden than coming to a huge club I'd send him some gardening gloves tbh. Despite a poor few months we're a fantastic second level club as will be demonstrated tomorrow. We need a manager with a big character, not another morose mumbling Yorkshireman <laugh>

My only concern is that SAFC will be impressed with how he was willing to bring academy and young players through at Leeds. Although it didn't work out it seemed to be a big part of his philosophy.

Really hope it’s not Heckingbottom… the guy seems one dimensional… he also looked completely lost as each week went by in the Premier League… sacking him must have been such a relief for the guy… we need to show much more ambition than this

Heckingbottom an uninspiring name any supporter sat in the pub could come up with in 30 seconds. Would hope Speakman can do better, but after the last one...

Would obviously give him a chance but I’d be canny disappointed with heckingbottom, just screams no ambition to me. Sacked at Leeds after 4 months, sacked at Hibernian after 9, sacked at Sheffield United. Yes did a good job to get sheff u up but got obliterated in the prem. Not at the levels of underwhelmed as Beale but not that far above for me.

If any of the top 6 lost their manager now, would they go for him? I’d guess they wouldn’t.

if the club were so sure he’s the man, why wouldn’t he be here already or even when Beale got it. Maybe I’m being harsh but that’s my initial thoughts.
