Right, but Greaves and Jones aren’t exactly short, neither is Delap, presumably that’s why we put endless crosses into the box and rarely play through the middle.
They don’t sign many players, they tend to sign lads and keep them for a prolonged period rather than have quick turnovers. Their manager has been there a year longer than Rosenior as well, presumably they call for his head after a crap game. A lot of their signings rack up over 100 appearances for them.
I have no reason to doubt when some people post things along the lines of players being unhappy otherwise why would they post it. If it is, thats two separate people (regular posters) who have heard/ said similar things...
So we have 3 tall players, one of whom hasn't featured for us since New Year's Day, compared to say Luton who probably had 8 or 9 giants in their team. One of our problems is that we do not / Can't physically impose ourselves like some other teams can
Didn't LR use the excuse if he wanted taller stronger players as the reason for not playing Fleming last season?
I reckon that team would beat this one, at least at this stage of the season. Maybe would have swung the other way in the first half.
The 07/08 squad had a former England international (Barmby), a former Danish international (Pederson), a former Nigerian International (Okocha), an Australian International (Garcia), a NI International (Elliott) and an England U21 (Campbell). It also had 2 Goalkeepers that are superior to our current one, a back four that is at least comparable to the current one, and a midfielder / captain in Ashbee who I would take over any of our current midfielders. Perhaps most importantly, we carried a genuine goal threat that season with Windass, Campbell and Folan (not something you can say about us at the moment!)
It's interesting but that squad was completely different to what we have now. Firstly, the core of the group had been together for quite a while, they had plenty of experience and promotion experience along with being full of leaders. The current group is one which is young, lacks experience and hasn't been together very long. On balance, we're just a young side which has fallen away, I think there's a few similarities to Norwich last year where with the addition of a few more experienced players we can really push on. I was looking and I think Allsop is the one with the most championship experience who plays regularly for us now and it's only his 4th year at this level, he's been relegated in 2 of those too.
Exactly - which is why - for me - it is a) wrong and b) a bit disrespectful to refer to that squad as "grafters." Yes, they grafted, but they also had the skill, experience, know-how and international pedigree to go with it. They knew how to break teams down and get over the line in tight games. The current squad - no matter how talented - still has to learn to do this.
I assume you mean players like Nathan Doyle, Nicky Featherstone, Simon Walton and Will Atkinson? All of whom would have featured less than the type of players previously mentioned because fewer subs were allowed back then
Ask OLM - he's the Simon Walton expert! Walton scored the first goal at the KC and was still around in 07/08
And who's fault is that? Roseniors. He's the one who says we don't need the experience, real leaders, more physicality, etc. And he brought in Allsop. One of the first things he should have done is to start to bring in all the above ,still missing, ingredients (bar Allsop). To give us some steel and nous, to complement the young talent. They would have then have been together for a decent period too. It's been as clear as day even to a blind man. But no, he's the messiah, we're uneducated. Then he finally does something like that and we get Billy ****ing Sharp! Rosenior, surely the most over-hyped, over-rated manager for achieving literally nothing we've ever had.
