Agreed, I was going to say something similar. He really is an average pub DJ, and as previously mentioned it's too loud to chat to someone sat next to you
Yes a sensible suggestion. I recall that a similar scheme was suggested about 20 years ago and several times since then. The club originally claimed that they couldn't get involved in traffic management and it was a matter for the council and / or the police. Apparently the council needed some kind of advance approval from the police but the police needed the council to make the request and (as far as I know) it never happened. It was also claimed (by former Hull City management) that roads adjacent to or relatively close to any football club could never be closed or subjected to traffic controls in order to accommodate football traffic because the general public had a right to use them. It was pointed out to them that several other football clubs manage to put temporary traffic controls (including road closures) in place. However I am not convinced that the various parties were sufficiently interested.
Lots of clubs have roads closed before and after matches, but they are generally either estate roads or other minor roads. Walton Street carries cross city traffic, it isn’t a minor road. The best exception I can think of to the above is the road outside Turf Moor. Where I suspect they’ve established a precedent over decades and long before cars dominated our cities and towns.
Walton Street is closed for three weeks when the Fair comes. Not a problem closing it then. And there are plenty of police and traffic wardens about to control the traffic when the Fair is on.
Yep, fair point. Maybe they take the view that those three weeks of closure mean the road shouldn’t be closed on another 20 days during the football season. It probably goes back to some agreement brokered back in 2002.
Let's be honest the council has never really valued Hull City even when we were in the Premier League I'm sure the traffic issue could be worked out if certain people thought it was important enough
Fair enough that this is the strategy they have chosen but I think that’s a huge mistake. Some develop fast early but go no further, others develop later. I there is still a lot of potential for physical and a huge amount of mental development to go between the ages of 18-21 so throwing a 16-17 year old into a higher age group and assessing them based on that doesn’t seem to be a very good idea to me.
Is it just me that is a little alarmed that the "business model" won't allow us to run a conventional academy like other clubs, or am I reading too much into it? Bearing in mind the talk of FFP, need to get promoted next season etc
But it wouldnt be closed for '20 days during the football season' would it? Just one hour after the final whistle would help enormosly to clear Walton Street. Perhaps more people would use Walton Street car park on a matchday if getting off it was a bit easier? Thus reducing parking problems and congestion in the near by streets, which I know from personal experience was a nusiance and a huge problem on match days for people trying to earn a living or living around there.
I’m not parking in Walton St car park tomorrow. I’m getting up early & setting off for **** knows where, but I’ll be there.
