Safc.com Mike Dodds has confirmed that Jenson Seelt will require surgery on a knee injury picked up during the defeat to Southampton. Subsequently, the centre-back is expected to return to action within six to nine months. Everyone at Sunderland AFC wishes Jenson a full and speedy recovery.
He'll probs get loaned straight out in Jan for game time probs to League 1, so i dont expect us to see him play again anytime soon.
There must be something in the north east air, them lot up the road are now experiencing similar injury problems.
Even worse news than I was expecting when the lay off was first mentioned. Best wishes to the lad. The players have had some terrible luck with injuries these last couple of years.
Shame for the lad. He was one I suspect the club were going to be hoping really kicked on next season. Even at the lower end he misses pre-season and there is a sense that a pre-season is missed all season. Wonder if this adjusts summer window plans. I think it should. I would take Seelt out of the equation until Christmas at least. Alese seems to be fragile and harsh as it sounds at this stage cant be relied on for a full season. Where does that leave us? Ballard and ONien, backed up by Triantis, Hjelde? If Ballard goes we suddenly look very weak there. I think we might need to put some money towards another solid CB, perhaps a chance to go big on a proper top end championship player.
Few things could be getting revisited in the summer mate, I'd imagine the attitude toward "older" targets may be something revisited.
Aye late twenties isn't too old for us, it's just as you say if there's little sell on value the fee has to be minimal. Pretty reasonable policy. He'd be a good signing.
