Of course all the most recent memories and success have been wonderful, and described by everyone above, so I'll go with 5 games from when I first started going as a pre-teen lad with my brothers thanks to our brilliant parents who took us all over the country (it was a time when not many primary school kids went to football and think I barely knew any other young kids going at this time!) Hull City 4 Sheff Utd 1 1983 - massive crowd, big away following and a thumping victory Penrith 0 Hull City 2 - FA Cup game in a ground smaller than N.Ferriby - I was literally stood yards from Whitehurst, Marwood, Roberts, etc boyhood dreams! Wimbledon 1 Hull City 4 1984 - Wimbledon went from Div 4 to Div 1 within 5 years, but they never beat us in 4 games over 2 seasons and we had a better team - it should have been us get to Div 1! Orient 4 Hull City 5 1984 - Amazing comeback from 1-4 with about 20 mins to go! Walsall 0 Hull City 1 1985 - Skipper planted a header into net to secure promotion a year after the heartache of Burnley 12 months earlier. It was a great period to be introduced to City!
For me... Bristol play off final win The fa cup final Scarborough at home in the Great Escape season Scunthorpe at home in the great escape season Darlington for the final game at BP
A couple of games in previous posts stand out there. Plymouth away saw Ricardo of this site travelling with us. On the M18 we sat behind an FC bus, he laughed when I gave their back seat passengers a wave, well a two fingered wave. At Penrith away I had a copper stood next to me all the match, he claimed he recognized me as a Carlisle United hooligan, police intelligence eh? The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
1. City 4 v Sheff Wed 4 - 1970 2. City 4 v Watford 1 - 2008 3 Bristol City 0 v City 1 - 2008 4 WBA 0 v City 3 - 2008 5 Sheff Utd 3 v City 5 - 2014 There are so many more but those are the ones that sprang to mind immediately, most of them because they are pretty recent and that’s where my memory is best these days. The play off semi final is special because it’s the last game that my Dad made it to, he was too ill to make the final and passed away early the following year. He started me on this journey 55 years ago and it’s one of the best things he ever gave me.
Went to most of those mentioned so far but there are so many but I’ll include - Bread van trip to Palace - we won Hartlepool - John Eyres fantastic goal finally won there ! Stockport cup match -Red Indians for the day Villa only about two coaches - we won 1-0 I think , stood on the open end in a light coloured jacket on my own - we scored I forgot where I was LOL the rest was not fun Hayes - Roary should have got an Oscar - he got arrested! So many 60’s 70’s home games too and many since
Chronological order: 1. D2 Sheff W Home 1970 4 - 4 2. D3 Burnley A 1984 2 - 0 win 3. D2 Leeds A 1987 2 - 0 win 4. D3 Bournemouth A 2005 4 - 0 win 5. D2 Bristol City wembley 1 - 0 win Edited to include the divisions (still think in old money) and realized I hadn’t included a premiership game. That says a lot about me or a lot about the prem. Southampton away last month was very close to making the list. Best first half I have seen a City team play in a long time
Peterborough away in the great escape season 1-1 I think (or was it 2-2). nah had to be 1-1 Watford away in the play off 1st leg Watford home play off 2nd leg Bristol City at Wembley Fulham at home first time in the premier league
Opening game of the season beating Leicester 2-1. First time the defending champions had lost their opening game and did it against our 13 man squad. Sun was out. Sky were showing the game across the country. We won the next game too and sat towards the top of the table.
First ever home Premier League game v Fulham, won 2 -1 Semi final FA Cup at Wembley v The Blunts, won 5-3. First ever game at The MKM, won 1-0 v Sunderland, special as my lad was City's mascot. FA Cup Final v Arsenal, what an ocassion, and we came so close to winning despite the result. Play Off win against Bristol City, Dean's goal and the win the most momentus in my time supporting City.
I knew you would pick that Stamford Bridge match John as soon as I read the thread title. My husband's best ever match too!
Obviously there are some obvious ones. Cardiff at home, the Wembley games and the Play Off games. 1.Bristol City 2008 2.Cardiff at home 2013 3.Sheff Utd FA Cup semi final 2014 4.Arsenal FA Cup final 2014 5.Bristol Rovers at home 2004 My none obvious top 5 are 1.Swansea home 2003. It was the first time I thought we would really go places. 2.Exeter home, April 1994. A 5-1 win my first game. I was hooked. 3.Sunderland, first game at KC. 4. Sheffield Wednesday away, August 2005 my first away game. Draw 1-1 5.Barnsley away, October 2017, 1-0. My first away win. I went about 20 games and 12 years without seeing us win away game.
Aside from Wembley: FA Cup v Brentford in 1971, first game, think we won but not sure. Palace away in League Cup in 90s. Won over two legs. Brentford away in great escape season, 2-0. Leeds at MKM, Evans and Meyler, 2-0 The other week at Southampton.
How could I forget you tc. You voted it your best ever away match and put in a fair amount of time and effort trying to locate any footage of the game. Plenty from the replay at Boothferry Park but no highlights of the 2-2 match at Stamford Bridge.
City 4 - 1 Blunts (1983) We scored 3 in the last 10 minutes City 5 - 3 Blunts - FA Cup semi - Fryatt's goal 3 minutes after coming on then Thudd scoring about 5 minutes later - brilliant City 2 - 2 Cardiff - Best atmosphere I have known at the KC/ MKM City 2-3 Arse - 35,000+ of us belting out "Wise men say" is something I'll never forget City V Trenchin and City V Lockeren. Those European games had a special feel to them and our Euro journey was too short
Swansea Home 2003. Great call. A pivotal moment. Sell out with people locked out. The buzz around the region was tangible. After many false dawn's, something special was really, finally happening. And for once, ,City didn't fluff their lines.
