Their accounts are out and show a loss but also that they are under ffp/psr rules. Wages to turnover 90%, loss after deductions allowed under ffp/psr of £12.3 million. Income from merchandise a decent number, no doubt boosted by the Ed Sheeran tie-up. They seem to have a clear plan, they also invested over 3million in youth development with more new improvements planned.
Speculate to accumulate. The trouble with that approach is when you get to the big time, can't outspend most of the league, and the outside investment you need to keep under the FFP bar goes elsewhere.
Ipswich valued at a quarter of a billion pounds outside of the premier league is a real head scratcher. It would be a surprise inside the premier league.
It's up to 105 million, no doubt staged investment dependent on achieving targets. Promotion to the premier league and staying there a season would probably see them valued at that
I've no particularly strong opinions of Ipswich and didn't pay much attention until recently. I thought they'd just come up from L1 with a good style and a bunch of players high on promotion adrenalin. It now seems there's a lot of money swirling around and figures that aren't quite adding up. I wonder how the Sunderland forums would be reacting if our club was making big losses and playing games with FFP. There seems to be an increasing train of thought that points deductions are easily made up and nothing to be worried about or embarrassed with ... ... it's cheating, however you disguise it, and a cesspit I'd rather we didn't plunge into because others are doing it. That's the point mate, it isn't fair play. They appear to be happy to ignore the rules and gain an advantage over other clubs, £35m outside of FFP rules I read. I remember Swindon whining when they were denied promotion for breaking the financial rules ... ... I hope anyone else is punished whether it's Everton, Forest, Leicester, Ipswich, etc. If it's not a level playing field the whole thing is pointless.
As I have posted earlier they are well within ffp and psr rules, most of the investment appears to be in infrastructure and improvements, plus getting a biggish club out of the league 1 cess pit. Their accounts have a clear breakdown of their ffp situation including the allowable losses that are deducted from their overall loss
I've got no idea about finance at all. It's not something that interests me and if someone made me deal with finances at work, I'd react with foul language and possibly violence. I work to the principle that I can't spend more than I've got and that's generally worked out to be a good plan. So, whether they're sticking to the FFP rules or not, how can Ipswich making a loss be seen as anything other than a bad thing? And surely, any sensible FFP rules should insist that clubs don't make losses.
] I'm not responding to you after that hissy fit you had the other day. You keep claiming you don't want an argument but keep responding to my posts. People are quite rightly bored with it because you'll make false claims and misquote me then carry it on for days. I don't respond to your posts and don't want to reply to comments directly aimed at me. You have no more idea about the actual financial details but you'll find a way to defend Ipswich and rubbish your own club. Sorry, not interested. You already have a two day argument on RTG, talk to them.
Its acceptable losses and as they are spending on youth development, facilities its deducted from overall losses. It's a bit like us, I would expect the big summer investment is being funded by KLD, as the previous improvements have been, that's a good thing as although it's a loss figures wise, it's a benefit to the club for years to come. That's essentially what looks like is happening at Ipswich, but their starting point especially with facilities is far worse than ours. If they where losing that much money and it was on transfers and wages then rightly they would be in massive breach of the rules and punished
Don’t mind Ipswich. Good club always been well supported. This is bullshit though. Can’t say what but there is something very, very dubious in this valuation.
If KLD dared to claim Sunderland are worth half that figure there are people, on here, who'd be apoplectic with rage
And, let’s be clear, we are, in the real world, a more valuable club than Ipswich. Something is absolutely barking there, no doubt the EFL will completely ignore and in a few years there be a blow out from it.
When I say I don't understand finances, I mean the language and jargon is meaningless to me. Other than the basic principle of you can't spend what you haven't got. How can any loss be acceptable? I understand that you might have to take a loan to fund something like redevelopment but surely you have to be pretty sure that you can cover the repayments? EDIT. I'm not trying to be difficult or facetious by the way, it genuinely baffles me.
The losses they make now are making the club more valuable when they decide to sell it, a bit like us, the investment in the pitch and academy especially will add value to the club overall, same as last year the club upgraded the corporate areas which meant we could charge more. At times you have to spend a bit short term to get it back mid to long term, we are very fortunate our starting point with facilities is much higher than a lot of clubs, so our investment (an awful lot) isn't as painful as a lot of clubs that need whole new drainage grounds etc. It's something to be proud of that our academy has always received decent funding and had very good facilities
Quite a lot of this reminds me of Wigan. Their supporters, and a few of ours, kept informing us how the books actually balanced, the club was being run well and were ambitious ... ... I don't know where it all went wrong and don't care, just pleased it did. TBH I'm sick of being told to feel sorry for Reading fans, Charlton fans, Everton fans, Forest fans, etc etc etc. The fans want big spending just as the Ipswich fans want now. Not one of them is questioning any of this, from what I've seen they're defending the valuation and 'investment' to a man. If it goes wrong, as it usually does, f*ck them for defending the cheating. There's a sickening trend of people saying 'it's just a few points deduction, soon made up' ... ... no, its cheating and shouldn't be praised the way some are doing.
I've just realised that a loss is spending more than they bring in. Rather than spending more than they have. Told you finance wasn't my thing
