The Tories will get decimated at the GE.

Can but hope they are totally humiliated in particular those of the ERG and other proponents of the tory right that brought about the brexit vote causing ongoing national self harm.

One of the (right wing) newspapers carried a story about Boris standing as a Tory candidate, on a 'Look what Brexit has done for us' ticket. That should go well...

Pedant’s Corner has to step in here. To decimate means to reduce by 10%, taken from the Roman custom of punishing a rebellious legion by killing every 10th man.

The Tories face electoral oblivion and could end up with fewer MP’s than either the Lib Dem’s or the SNP. Imagine a party elected with a majority of 80 ending up 5 years later as one of the minor groups huddled together for warmth on the back rows of the Opposition benches below the gangway.

Just read that the government rejected a request from Southampton City Council to increase council tax by an extra 10% above the maximum 4.99%.
Not sure how many people would have been able to afford that without cutting back on other things.

Yep I didn’t say I think they can pull it off. Just thought it was interesting enough to post.

I am for a change in government but I still think we need a strong opposition in our funny 'two party' system, and I much rather the Tories retain some seats to provide that rather than a collaboration with Reform idiots.

My positions are actually centrist more than right. I will vote for any party which focuses on:

    - Protects farmers
    - Stimulates British industry and economy
    - Secure borders
    - Safe & clean cities
    - Don’t bankrupt the country with spending and money printing
    - Racism against any race is wrong (including against white people)
    - Focus more on England rather than getting involved with external politics
    - Focus on actual problems instead of identity politics
    - Reduce violence and war globally instead of amplifying

I think all of the above is pretty much common sense yet no party, left, right or otherwise seems to be able to aim for common sense.

And there's the thing with forums and social media. I don't actually think many/any people would disagree with the above. Weird innit?

Reading an article as we're sat in cardiology waiting to discuss Mrs Jab's treatment after ECG and Echo CG showed a mitral heart valve defect.
    https://www.theguardian.com/society...die-john-crace-on-his-terrifying-heart-attack
At the end of the article was link to "Record one in five NHS staff in England are non-UK nationals, figures show"
    https://www.theguardian.com/society...-in-england-are-non-uk-nationals-figures-show
We're fortunate where we are to have a speedy and efficient health service. Mrs Jab's symptoms were recognised and acted on immediately making her treatment routine rather than in response to an emergency.

Much of the above would be solved by joining the EU customs union and single market.

What? And give up the benefits of Brexit? They'll be here soon, I've been assured

Whilst being wholly in favour of the Tories being wiped off the political map of Britain, the danger with predictions about a landslide victory for any party/combination of parties is that this leads to complacency - If the electorate is being told that victory for a particular party is assured, the desire to exercise one's democratic right by actually going to vote is somewhat lessened, because 'Victory is assured', so one less vote won't matter.

In short, everyone needs to take part, otherwise resultant decisions will be made by a small number of activists, whichever persuasion they belong to.
