Ekwah is being made to play out of position as the 6 though, Neil is playing his preferred role as the 8. If Ekwah was thriving as the 8 but Neil was having to play the 6 and wasn’t playing as well it would be “well he’s having to deputise out of position for the team” etc.

Ekwah clearly has an eye for goal he’s got a decent strike on him which Neil doesn’t. On the other hand he gets caught in position on the turn too often which Neil doesn’t. Would suit playing further forward imo.

No, alongside Neil.. Evans is the only proper 6 we have. We could play about 4-5 players where Neil plays as the 8 hence why I said he’s the most easily replaceable

Not a bad idea, would fit into my two up front emergency plan until we get some forwards , backs to the wall 4/4/2 with two runners up front. Pembele and Mundle might be the two, who knows..

I’ve been willing to give the lad time but he just isn’t giving us too many bright sparks like Simms did.

It’s a hard watch at the moment, until we get some 1st team players back we will struggle along unfortunately. It looked like a fair few thousand didn’t fancy it yesterday either, that’s worrying because I thought we had managed to attract some support back. The next appointment is massive and a great opportunity to put some optimism back into the support.
This international break couldn’t have came at a better time for us

Have a question for anyone on here who are into stats of Games( felltop and scout73) would love to know iff the stats are available what ours are for ball turnover or lost possession.I ask this because for months now when watching our games the times we give up cheap possession whether it’s weakness, poor touches or passing it’s infuriating to watch and i seem to turn to my son sitting next to me constantly saying there we go again possession lost, would appreciate any stats if they are available

I think we keep losing possession so often is because we fart about with the ball in our half too much.

Certainly marra, but also all over the pitch the turnover of possession is terrible and once you notice it and are scrutinising it, it becomes annoying

Talking about losing possession, a lot of our first touches were off yesterday. I noticed when I played (at a very low level) how mine and others varied a lot depending on confidence, form, etc. Mundle for instance looks like a very skilful player who should be controlling the ball beautifully. His touch was awful on several occasions and especially under pressure. The bad run, the big home crowd, personal form and belief are probably factors for a lot of the players being below their level.

Decision-making was off as well and maybe for similar reasons. One time, Hemir robbed the ball off Steve Cook (I think) and got the wrong side of him. The situation was crying out for him to take the ball towards the penalty area and use his body to get in front of the defender - who he was probably faster than. Instead, he turned back away from goal and got crowded out by three defenders. Forward-wind a year or two and an in form and confident Hemir would have no hesitation about heading straight for goal - getting a shot away or possibly causing the defender to bring him down.
Take him out of the midfield and Ekwah will fill his boots no problem. Neil has came on well this season but he’s not as good as some of our fans make out. He’ll get his PL move but unless something drastic happens he won’t be a regular for one of the big boys, absolutely no chance. He’s not even the best young midfielder in the league.

We’ve got nobody to replace Clarke whatsoever none of our wingers are anywhere near his level.
Don't think he's capable of filling Neil's shoes mate. Too inconsistent and slow in his decision making. Sadly, we had the one on our books last season who could have done it, but he decided against making the move permanent.

That is very good news about CM.
I have definitely counted it our Bob, but it does seem you still have some lingering hope.
I can not imagine any scenario where either one of those would be welcomed back to our club.

I would swap them round. I will be amazed if Neil doesnt play as a 6 in the premier league personally, and at a top end side too. Liverpool been watching closely for a while, but Klopp decision may see that cool.

@Sour Patch is your stats man mate. Pretty sure he works for a pro club on the stats side. I am interested in stats but no expert at all, and probably misinterpret them at times.

I think we lose possession to easily. I have coached for years (well not anymore, been retired off by a club recently <laugh>) and my opinion is we have players adjusting to the pace of this league or are immature in their decision making. I can watch Ba, as an example, and he looks so technically gifted, but at times he makes some poor decisions where he turns into trouble. Ekwah is an example, in my opinion, of someone who has yet to fully adapt from u23 football to this level. He often seems to think he has more time on the ball. One of the things I have pondered about some of our signings is how little mens football they have had. Often they are out of u23s or had a handful of games in a first team. They stand out a bit as not up to speed IMO. Compare them to Hume, played at mens level, albeit at a lower level, but has that edge and sharpness. It is a really old cliche, and I get grief in some clubs I have coached at, but mens football is a different animal and some adjust easier than others do. Rigg looks tailor made for it, Hemir the exact opposite, in my opinion anyway.

One thing that frustrated me at times on Saturday was our reluctance to sometimes put the ball into box. A few times we had chance of an early cross, which can cause a bit of panic (as it does to us at times) but stopped the ball, passed it back/sideways and if we did then crossing the defence had reset.
Also, we had a few free kicks around the golf way line and everytime played the ball back/sideways to start a process that wasn't working. Why didn't we just try something different and put the centre half's up and put the ball into the box? Maybe, just maybe, we might have got a break and a chance?
Same from goalkicks, change it around and mix it up - even Liverpool and Manchester United did this yesterday!
