Me too....i just don't get this GC hype. I personally think he's a doubtful stayer at G1 level over 3m+.
He had hurdles form over 2m4f (and over 2m, beating Sire De Grugy) and it was assumed that he was going for the Neptune, until switched to the Albert Bartlett relatively near the Festival, which was hist first and to date only start over 3m. He obviously stays well but I expected him to have more pace than he showed today. Furthermore, his jumping was a bit big and ponderous; safe but not electric. He was in receipt of 7lbs from Cue Card and I think he should have lost. To me that has to be a slightly disappointing result. Not a disaster but probably not as good as might have been expected. It was a decent display but nothing more, and therefore a little disappointing in my book.
imo he did everything you'd want him to do. He's jumped round safe and sound, found a bit at the end and won. He'll probably come on nicely for it as well. Definately wants further as well but we knew that before the race.
As we all know the forum's favourite trainer Mr Henderson would not have had Bobs Worth anywhere near fully wound up today. The bare bones form isn't impressive (just beat Cue Card getting 7 lbs) BUT he will come on tons for that and I fully expect to see him near the top of the RSA market come March (injuries permitting). Mind you at the moment it looks like any horse who wants to beat Grands Crus will have to be a real good un.
I wouldn't be drawing to many conclusions from Bobs Worth today, whilst the bare form doesn't look like that of an RSA candidate, it was only his first run over fences, and throughout the contest, he was losing ground at his fences to Cue Card, a horse who had already competed in 2 previous chases. Yes he only just got up by a nose getting 7 pounds but judge Bobs Worth after a few more starts
Where is the great Sir Barney this afternoon? I thought he would be on revelling in the victory of Mr Henderson's Bobs Worth. Agree with what you say. It was a decent performance but I doubt the Grands Crus camp are quaking in their boots just yet.
Only a watching brief for me, however, the reason Cue Card got beaten was not Tizzards fault, I think the nags gutless he was travelling well enough throughout, but failed to find anything when asked the question he never picked up of the bridle. I don’t think he’s brave enough to be considered anywhere near the elite in his category. Bobs Worth looks decent and should improve, could be anything.
