Just discovered this great band from Portland, 21 years after they released their debut album but then shortly after tragically 3 of the members died in a car crash and the group naturally ended with just the guitarist surviving. This from their wiki about their style and influences..."The band rose to prominence in the US Pacific Northwest scene shortly after they formed in 2001. The band drew influences from early British punk bands such as Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Jam, The Boys and The Only Ones, and Irish band The Undertones, as well as power pop acts like Nick Lowe"...so naturally I love them! Here is a brilliant compilation of their singles and a few alternative versions of album tracks...
There is no man alive who would not want to be loved by this remarkably beautiful woman. Nina Simone:To Love Somebody (Live in Antibes, 1969) (youtube.com)
So we're playing Hull tomorrow and here's a very nice documentary about one of its favourite sons, the late, guitar great Mick Ronson. He played on and arranged the two albums that made me fall in love with music, David Bowie's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars and Transformer by Lou Reed. Bowie described him as "his Jeff Beck" and acknowledged his role in the early part of his career...
Been following this band for the last decade, this is a very mellow groove from their new album Daniel released tomorrow...
They're brilliant aren't they?, such a tragedy that they recorded so little...This is their first and only album that they released, the other is a singles compilation...
It’s one of those times when, if you don’t know already, you’ll never guess! Edit: those of you who are Facebook friends with Laces, don’t look now!
My first ever post on the Music thread, but did anyone else have the mis-fortune of watching Cantona sing, sorry, I mean talk, live on Michael Macintyre recently? I genuinely thought it was some sort of comedy wind-up (which the show is famous for), but by all accounts he is touring. What an awful pile of pants! What a shame to tarnish such a legendary status with this pile of poop!!
I love it. It's totally mad and deluded and good luck to him! It's also possibly the Frenchest thing ever.
