It's also indisputable that gender-affirming care drastically reduces the rate of suicide attempts, and no other form of intervention has shown any real success. There's a reason every medical organization in the UK and North America was on the same side on this one:

    https://www.hcplive.com/view/suicid...gender-nonbinary-youths-gender-affirming-care

But look, if enough children kill themselves, there will be fewer trans adults whose genitals IOAG will need to obsess about, so that's obviously a victory.

Conservative advertising on Facebook, for the first 9 weeks of this year compared to last, has risen from around £54k to £740k, with emphasis on Tory marginal seats, so a May election is quite possible, the same day as the local elections.

I don’t want anybody shot. But I remain of the opinion that a guillotine should be erected in heart of The City of London, to remind the disaster capitalists getting rich from other people’s misery, of what can happen to them, when the scales of justice become too unbalanced.

Sorry, no more but thought this was clever & funny.

Edit: Just read & caught up with the Abbott posts. Blimey this might have been well timed (to defuse). I will add, a lot on all these threads gets taken verbatim, whereas most are posters being overly descriptive & letting off a bit of steam. I always try to read & get the posters gist rather than take the actual words at face. Just me tho.

Whether she is an embarrassment of a politician or not, no one deserves to be racially abused or threatened with being shot. I would ask that you please delete the start of your post regarding the abuse. Any comment that condones someone getting racist abuse and threats is unacceptable.

I just find this such a weird thing to jump in on. Just look at the chain of messages:
Tory donor says racist thing about black woman.
    People say this is bad.
Os says she deserves "all the abuse she gets" - and there is nothing tongue in cheek about it as he says "in all seriousness".
People are a bit shocked someone is defending racism in any context.
You jump in and call people out.

Honestly, even the tories are saying this was racist. I, personally, would not get involved. I've never said anyone should get shot, or hanged, or lobbed off a bridge - and I think justifying racism in any way is offensive. What is your disagreement with that?

The comments made towards her were disgusting and unambiguously racist. Yet that doesn’t suddenly make her into a great politician nor does it suggest that the whip be reinstated.

She’s been spouting antisemitic tropes as recently as this week. Her being attacked doesn’t excuse her own racist outbursts or make her a better person.

No doubt she’s had to go through a lot to get to where she is and she deserves full credit for that, even if I think she’s a pretty terrible politician.

These are two different things. It is okay to say:

    I don't like person X.

It is not okay to say person X makes me hate all of race Y.

Yes, of course I agree with that. I’m just saying that people are using it as an excuse to attempt to distract from her own shortcomings.

She apologised unreservedly for the remarks which got her suspended from the PLP, and said that the racism experienced by Irish and Jewish people and Travellers had had monstrous effects.

For context, she was the first black woman ever to be elected to Parliament in 1987. She has represented the same Hackney North and Stoke Newington constituency ever since, achieving huge majorities every time. Even in the disastrous election for Labour in 2019, her share of the vote was 70.3% and her majority 33,188. All this tends to suggest that her constituents hold her in high regard, whatever the rest of us might think.

I would be interested in taking the emotion out of this and discussing her remarks, but I imagine everyone will get shouty. She was suspended for saying Jews, travellers and the Irish did not experience racism but prejudice. This is a really interesting line - where does race begin and end? What is the difference between prejudice and racism?

All racism is clearly prejudice but not all prejudice is racism. Is prejudice lesser than racism?

Also, are the Irish a homogenous race? Are travellers? What makes their race distinct? Could you, scientifically, argue that prejudice against the Irish and travellers is a prejudice separate to racism? I am struggling to see what is wrong with this view?

That leads to racism / prejudice against Jews. Are Jews just one race? You can marry into Judaism, can you not? Doesn't that make anti-Jewish comments a more general prejudice? If I am Jewish I am not necessarily of the Jewish race, surely? What am I misunderstanding here?

I googled this and the first Jewish site I found said Jews are NOT a race: Are Jews a Race? | My Jewish Learning

    Someone educate me here.

And none of this is meant to defend Ms Abbott - as I don't really have any interest in her.

This week she shared the #itwasascam hashtag relating to the conspiracy theory that there was no antisemitism in the Labour Party.

So it’s still very much an ongoing thought process for her. There are countless other examples, too.

The biggest problem with prejudice or racism is society has to put a label on people.

Are you a man, woman,Jewish, Irish, Black, White, Yellow, Catholic, Muslim etc.

Or are you just a human.

You can be 3 or 4 of those labels at once too.

This is coming from a slight righty too.

I don't think anyone here has called her a great politician or suggested the whip be reinstated. She's been an MP in Hackney since 1987 one of the most diverse constituencies there is. See below for the original 2023 controversy I can't find any recent anti semitic tropes using 'Diane Abbott shared the #itwasascam hashtag', a link please. This is no defense, there's much she says and does that I take issue with, I want to see the full picture, as Loadsa says "taking the emotion out of this and discussing her remarks". Abbott is streets ahead of Patel, Baverman,Truss, Badenoch and all the other tory harradians that stretch across generations.

@StJabbo1 will post the screenshot later.

John McDonnell has called for her to have the whip returned.

I’m not sure she’s any better or worse than the ones you’ve mentioned, but none of them fill my with confidence!

    Bob's Mate;
So what are your views on puberty blockers?

Bit late for me at the age of 72.
I don't have enough knowledge on the subject to form an opinion.

Bit late at 72 but at 74 you have miraculously gained enough knowledge on the subject to now form an opinion, even if it is the wrong one. One thing you were right about though, it was a bit late then. It's way past your comprehension now.

There is a load of evidence already posted on here as to why puberty blockers are harmful to children. Schad has decided to ignore it for reasons only known to himself. He obviously has his own agenda but the welfare of children doesn't seem to come into it. Why would anyone support something as seriously damaging to young children? Aligning yourself with Schad discredits you also.
He and anyone who agrees with him are beyond the reach of enlightenment so there is no point in putting up more facts just to be disregarded again. But what I will say is the NHS hasn't stopped prescribing PB's because of my posts on here. Maybe there's a medical reason that Dr Schad is unaware of or has ignored again. Something for you to think about when giving any further opinions.

I jumped in to point out that Badger and others had got indignant about Hester suggesting that Abbott should be shot when Badger had posted something very similar himself. At the time no one said it was an appalling thing to say or that it was truly heinous.
As you can clearly see, my post was referring to Badger's anger at Hester's suggestion and the hypocrisy involved. There was, and is no support of racism. I'm tempted to think you are using racism, because you have no answer to the hypocrisy suggestion.

It's a bit like the difference between anti Israeli and antisemitism. One term is used to hide behind the other.
