Watford v Swansea Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Vicarage Road Date - 6 March 2024 Kick off - 7:45pm Following their well deserved home victory over Blackburn, next up for Luke Williams’ Swansea squad is an away match at Watford. Last Saturday, the Swans earned a first home league win under Luke Williams to leave Blackburn Rovers just one point above the Championship relegation zone. The Swans had started the day below Rovers in the table on goals scored, but eased their own relegation concerns with two goals in the opening 20 minutes. Joe Allen tapped in following good work by Przemyslaw Placheta to put the hosts in front, before Jamie Paterson's composed finished doubled their lead. The Championship's top scorer Sammie Szmodics volleyed in from a free-kick to give Blackburn hope, but Swansea held their nerve. Williams' side climb up to 15th in the table - four points clear of the bottom three - after securing back-to-back victories in the Championship for the first time since October. Whilst the Swans were beating Blackburn, Millwall were making it two wins out of two under new boss Neil Harris as Zian Flemming's early free-kick was enough for three points against struggling Watford. Flemming beat keeper Ben Hamer from 30 yards as Valerien Ismael's Hornets suffered their fifth defeat in six games, a run which looks to have put them out of contention for a play-off place. Head coach Ismael had demanded more from his players following last week's home loss to Huddersfield, but despite enjoying much of the possession, they gave Lions keeper Matija Sarkic few anxious moments. The win lifted Millwall up one place to 19th in the table, with Watford dropping one to 12th, now 12 points adrift of the top six following a run of five defeats in six games, and only 2 points above the Swans. The Swans have played Watford on 54 previous occasions, winning 25, losing 19 and drawing 10. In last season’s corresponding encounter, the Swans won 2-1: Turning to tomorrow evening, I think that the Swans are more than capable of winning and extending Watford’s poor run of results, but I have a feeling that the teams will share the spoils with a 1-1 draw
My Watford contact predicts a loss but I think this will be a draw as well. Fingers crossed we can continue our good form... for 90+ minutes this time!
My Watford pals are equally pessimistic. I hope we can put two halves together and come away with at least a point. It's 1-1 for me
Harry Darling looking ropey as usual. He just seems to lack positional awareness. He seems more interested in getting forward than defending.
