We're just nit-picking over semantics now. Yeah I'm not going to walk up to a player and abuse him, nor am I going to firebomb his house. But while I'm in the pub with my mates, or in an internet chat-room, I might negative things about a player's performance if I think it's warranted.
This is a discussion board for saints fans. If a player is performing badly and the team are losing points it’s fair enough to criticise them here. It’s not the same as shouting abuse at a game. These players are paid exorbitant wages, which we fans pay for, therefore I think regular underperforming can be called out.
Which is of course the best way to motivate people. Kicking them in the balls helps a lot too I find. I used to find it very motivating when my boss used to yell at me and tell me I was ****ing useless.
Never said a bad word about anyone on this forum then? Not even Nathan Jones? People are being hypocrites.
If any of these pros are reading Not606 and feeling hurt, then I think maybe they have their priorities wrong. There is a direct difference between criticising someone on a forum and @Ing them on social media with abuse. Anyone who thinks we are capable of damaging the motivation of our players on this forum needs their head examined. And, Manning, if you are reading this, you need to get out to your man sooner. I don't care if you have been briefed to stay central, as soon as that ball is floated wide... get moving!
Yeah, come on, Che's not talking about abuse at games or directly on Twitter etc. Just criticising a player's performance on here. Very different things. A bit like a player will be criticised on Total Saints Pod or something.
No way am I in the business of telling people how they should behave, letting off steam can be very therapeutic, but I just doubt that it will have the desired effect on the player concerned. There are however a few lines that shouldn't be crossed, but that's just my opinion, not a gospel.
No Russ, it's not about fitting players that deserve to play into a team if it means they are out of position. Stephens is a good player at this level, but he just isn't as good as the other 2 and it is that simple.
I think he looked pretty good with Stephens at LB when against West Brom. I'd be okay with a KWP/Bree, THB, Bednarek, Stephens back four tbh.
If a player is performing badly, he is probably the first to know about it. He will be getting it in the neck from his manager, his team mates and the supporters, he might try harder but if he has limitations nothing is going to turn him into a superstar in a hurry. With Manning, I have said in the past there are times when he appears to have had his shoe laces tied together by a prankster, he seems unco-ordinated and his feet aren't doing what his brain is telling them!
He doesn’t mean it literally, you won’t be seeing the Wee Man in goal when he comes back, but Jack gives us something different and KWP is out, Bree is only just back and Manning isn’t as good as Jack so we need to adjust to that I like Jacks meanderings in midfield much like Stones does for MCity
