The standard of defending in the League of Ireland appears to be piss poor, the defenders didn't get within 2 metres of the Jarvis on both shots. I am sure there are posters on here who will have in-depth knowledge, just how good is the quality of the football in the league?
I'm sure it's good experience for our young pros in many ways, but as a grade or a benchmark, it seems pretty low. Case in point is Harry Wood. Ripped it up there by all accounts leading to effusive calls for a first team place at City. Whereas, back over here, he's struggling to get game time at the bottom end of League 2.
That's such a lazy comparison and it's stupidly wrong too. There's so much more than goes into it and having watched both Grimsby this year and Shelbourne last year they play completely differently. Shelbourne suited Harry, Grimsby doesn't. It's like saying that Werner has been better at Spurs this year than Leipzig so Germany is the stronger league.
We've got to look at how we're loaning players out. It's way too focussed on sending players to the highest level possible, instead of sending them to places where they'll play every week. I think it's imperative that you go to a place where you know you'll stay in the side even if you have a couple of dodgy performances.
