Another brilliant read from Clive. I loved this line "Things Sinclair Likes No.3 In The Series – long, convoluted, drawn out celebrations. Five minutes of stoppage time added to the end of this game, and six of them were because of his Oscar's acceptance speech down by the corner flag. All glory be to God."
Seriously, what’s not to like just now? Have watched highlights and extended highlights a few times; listened to Second Tier podcast (twice - well the beginning anyway) and re-read Clive’s write up. I am buzzing and am no longer afraid of any upcoming fixtures. That said, I’m currently sitting on the balcony of a Gold Coast apartment, drinking Peroni (wife has champagne). We are celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary today and her 60th birthday yesterday. What a weekend.
I was going to mock this bloke but he’s clearly nearing the extreme end of a spectrum so that wouldn’t be fair. Single, living with his mum and not being able to down a pint in ten minutes is a curse. I will mock the Leicester fans he was sitting with. What a bunch of pointless twats. That stadium was a cauldron in their great escape and Premiership winning seasons, now the sense of entitlement pervades the place. Must be the only place in the country where they have a designated ‘singing section’ (about a quarter of the size of the away fans seating) where nobody sings. My mates blame the football being so boring that they spend more time discussing what they are having for dinner than watching, but I think something has happened to the fanbase, though their travelling support seemed good last year. Shame.
That team should never have gone down and their start has bred a certain arrogance where a win against anyone but the others in the top four is a bit of a given and just another game to get through on the way to inevitable promotion. Their support was **** at Loftus Road too. The manager/players probably a bit complacent too. Their fans complain there’s no plan B. Lots of lovely passing without creating loads of chances. Probably works great if you score first and the other team have to come out but with the squad they have the manager should have multiple tactics to mix it up a bit but plan A had worked all season. Their reserves beat Bournemouth who let them play but both us and Boro dug in and won which gives teams a template to follow now. Still think they’ll get over the line and probably get 100 points but it’s a tougher league for the top teams than it often is. I think we won the title with 88 points and they had 78 from 32 games.
That's one of Clive's best. Interesting that he thought Paal played so well, when he was getting a fair bit of criticism on here. Also, it's great to hear how well Hayden played and about Dunne's return to form. Excellent stuff.
They still hand them out for every match! Obviously had the silencers on last Saturday. I don’t think about the environment much when I’m at footy, but it’s not very green. The week before I was standing in the home end at Viktoria Koln when they played Sandhausen in the German third division. We were all given big club colours flags to wave in unison before the game. Then the ultras leaders came round and collected the flags back. All very German.
I have precedent on my side. When the boy was still in his teens and ...................lazy, he used to spend Saturday afternoons watching tv all afternoon while keeping an eye on scores. he persuaded me to join him when they went 1-0 up at Hull in around the 85th minute. The results had started to come through on the videprinter. One minute later it was 1-1 and one more minute later they were losing. I think Hull went up that season and that win went a long way to sealing their promotion. Never again. I recalled numerous occasions when, apparently (I'm sure memory pays tricks on all of us) the same had happened. Funnily enough the same happened when I watched our live games on tv - I honestly can't remember the last time we won
