Finally, Southampton lose, just need Leeds to slip up and it’ll relieve some of the pressure, however if we keep going like we are it’s all immaterial in the end isn’t it? COYB!!!
I don’t want to get too carried away, and I’m aware that we’re playing championship teams not premier league teams, but that midfield partnership of Winks and Dewsbury-Hall has to be one of our best ever. Their skill sets just work together so well. Hopefully if we do go up we get a whole season of them together without anyone poaching one!
The wingers are also excellent and will cause problems for Premier League defenders ... defence is where we would certainly need to strengthen... plus we need to sick Vardy in a cryogenic tank that turns his body clock back a good 8 years
Another 3 points 29 more required. Yes, I do want that record! Some scintillating football in that first half. And just as I'd inflated my lungs to launch into our retaliation "he's won more than you" when the Wednesday fans started with "Jamie Vardy.." they surprised us with "Jamie Vardy, he's one of our own". Fair play and worth the applause they received.
Bit perplexed with Daka starting today. We’re at home against Boro who had a few injuries, so we’re more than likely going to be in control and making chances. Vardy is our most natural finisher, Daka suits a game where we need him to hold it up. Maybe Vardy was slightly jaded from Tuesday, but surely he should have started. Lose on Friday and things start getting interesting.
We've got a tricky little run of games coming up. We need to address our wastefulness in front of goal or we could find ourselves out of the automatic promotion places.
His goal attempt from inside the 6 yard box was quite bizarre... pretty good defensive header tbf ...
I don’t know what to make of that tonight. We should have been three or four up if we could have finished our chances, then we implode defensively. A win and we’d have been well on the way to a top two finish, but that’s opened the door for the rest. It’s a positive that we’re making chances but we’ve got to take them, Mavidid could have had a hat trick in the second half alone. Daka was unlucky with the disallowed goal, but the finish from Pereiras pass was worthy of Sunday league football. Can’t describe how frustrating it was watching that second half.
*Disclaimer. I am not a professional sportsperson and its late on a Saturday night here. What the F**k!! The first 70 minutes we were outstanding apart from some woeful attempts. I couldn't believe Daka went to the right of the keeper when KDH put him through when it seemed far easier on the other side (note disclaimer). We had an awful linesman decision but at this level and if we want to be higher, those misses from Daka and Mavididi were criminal. KDH, Winks and Ricky completely outplayed them through the middle were positives. I do think today we found Vestergaard's level. Everyone could see 5 minutes before their equalizer he had blown out and then became a liability and might as well have not been there. Coady must be crap at training for Maresca not to even consider a swap. Not the first time this season we have been outdone by an opposition coach recognizing changes had to be made. I know we are 6 points clear at the top but it could have been so much better. Tough run home so we need to get back on the horse next week. Read this through and can't be arsed changing it.
I understand your frustration, NZ. It was Groundhog Day all over again. We've seen that match scenario several times this season and we seem to have learned nothing. As you say, the midfield trio were fantastic and lasted the 90 minutes well, which was fortunate as any replacement would have weakened that part of the pitch. The forward line was all round average to awful. Mavididi had his defender on toast but there was no end product. Fatawu was anonymous and Daka had another game to forget when it came to finishing. As you say, Vestergaard can still be a worry. He had a decent game defensively for about 75 minutes but he is so slow on the ball and almost gifted Leeds a goal when caught dawdling with it. His attempt to get back into position for their first goal was like watching someone wading through quicksand. As for the keeper's distribution, every kick went either to their keeper or into a space where we had no players. Our goal difference was worth another point not so long ago but we have started conceding too many and scoring too few. If we could have played with a striker who can take half of the chances presented then we'd still be at least 12 points clear with nothing to worry about.
Pretty good showing by some of the peripheral players plus a cracking goal from Abdul Fatawu, well worth winning a cup tie ... Quarter finals here we come ...
How things can change in a few days. That team would finish in the top six. Great defensive work particularly Hamza and Vesterguaard and finally Fatawu misses the crowd. Happy days.
Chelsea away should be interesting. Although they’re expected to win I reckon we’ve got nothing to fear. It’ll be interesting to see how seriously Enzo takes it now, with a strong XI we’ll give them a good game, plenty of teams have gone there and won this season, no reason why we can’t. It’s a ground I’ve not been to yet so I’ll be keen to get down there. All in all it will be another good bench mark as to how we’re progressing.
I'm hoping to go too and it will be a new ground for me if I do. Hopefully we'll have around 6,000 tickets.
My last trip there was the final game of the 2015/16 season! - sitting in the Matthew Harding stand with 100s of other City fans - remarkable day out
Play your strongest 11 and you've every chance, if we had our first 11 last night, I think we would have beat them, I know it wasn't their, first 11 but there were still £700m worth of signings in their team. Good luck, hope you do beat them. Leicester v Coventry semi final, that could be a little tasty
