Fantastic performance from the team tonight and for most of the second half we looked the better team. Really impressed by our calm composure and assured play which bodes well for the rest of the season
Thought Rodon looked like he could easily step up to the PL tonight and it wasn't his fault that Cooper was selected alongside him. Yes we had one or two weak links but overall there were many positives to take out of tonights display
Agree Ampadu was outstanding. Joseph even without the goals was great tonight. Think you’re a bit harsh on coops and firpo. Thought junior was actually pretty good most of the game. Couple of errors but even the goal at the end I felt sorry for him - he was watching palmer then came to snuff out Gallagher but couldn’t risk the foul on the edge of the area. It didn’t look great but he had two men.
It's all about Saturday lunchtime now and getting the 3 points at Huddersfield although Farke has some decisions to make after Ampedu and Gray performed so well in midfield and then there's Dan James or Gnonto to choose from on the right. Good to have options though.
An excellent performance from our lads tonight, going toe to toe with a premier league team. Even after Herr Farke made some (understandable) changes to our starting line up. 2nd half we had to play against a billion pound bus parked on the kings road. And a special mention to Archie, he just seamlessly slots into any position he is asked to play and oozes class.
For me thought Coops had a decent game tonight. Not brilliant, but did his job effectively against better quality opposition, and with less game time than the players either side of him, which is a factor in being, game ready. Piroe is just not quick enough, either in thought or action, to play at this level. However Joseph will have gained much needed experience and confidence from this evenings match. What’s not to like, and we gave Bamford a rest, hopefully for when we play the Dog Botherers.
That left hand side was the weak point. Coops did alright but he just doesn't have the pace. He's lost another yard this season. Didn't quite get there for a couple of goals. That didn't help Juniors cause one bit and Rodon suffered too. Coops hasn't had much game time and looked like things happened around him. His frustration to the winner might have been more an indication that he's realised he is really not at our level anymore. Junior did well at times but other times looked.... please log in to view this image As a full back you should always take on responsibility for the danger man and Gallagher was the most dangerous option. Most of it was Cooper but Firpo could see everything and failed to get the message to Cooper or get there himself. You should leave the guy out wide on that one.
Everton scouts were at the game last night, getting very excited!!!! please log in to view this image
Never been firpo’s biggest fan but see this one differently bud… Gallagher had got goal side of his marker (Grey?). Rodon was ball watching and let his man go pulling cooper out of position. Firpo is in a good position watching Cole. Had he gone to Gallagher earlier the pass would go to Cole who would have had a free run on goal. There were 2 danger men and whilst the central danger man is usually the bigger threat… to Firpo it looked like others might get to Gallagher. If he’d gone to Gallagher and palmer scores he’d get roasted for that. Half arsed attempt at a tackle by junior but mitigating circumstances. Our full backs were up against quick and skillful PL wingers. They did better than expected defensively for me (not that my expectations were high for junior. Some of juniors play on the ball was excellent, he made some great runs to create space for others and provide width. Not perfect but think there’s some judgment by reputation not performance going on. Bit like Gray getting man of the match for err being 17.
Once again the difference in divisions is glaringly obvious. Meslier had more to to last night than in the previous nine games combined. All in all a great effort though and I’d love to have seen how disruptive rutter would have been
Alreet lads, unlucky last night (from toon fan). A special mention for my daughter's boyfriend (leeds fan) who got a ticket for last night's game but had to sit in among the home fans...all on his lonesome!
