There is no shouting and screaming and only one retaliation from any of these "tackles". I wonder how many of todays players would have survived back then. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52416192
I suppose you could ask how many of those would survive today too - red cards and constant suspensions would ruin their careers. I think it was Chelsea's Chopper Harris who cost us the semi-final that year by chopping Chopper Welbourne - the only time I can remember that happening.
Mark Clattenburg reckons there would have been 5 red cards and Leeds were robbed . https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...d-Cup-MARK-CLATTENBURG-result-never-been.html
Yes I remember the game and reply and yes Leeds were robbed both times, I remember being incensed at the time. that was quite brutal but very entertaining highlights. real men playing big Jack, Bremner, Harris to name a few, took no prisoners. They were tough and came out unscathed unlike todays mollycoddled players. Make you wonder.
Rumours that VI has been sacked and that an Academy manager will take charge for the rest of the season
Where have you seen that? Nothing on Twitter. There were some people trying to claim Val was going and Cleverley/Deeney/Scott Parker etc were coming in the other day but think that was just made up. The club put a picture/video of the squad training with Ismael up yesterday.
Sam Ugbo (not sure if thats how you spell it) It could be just wishful thinking on his his part or he has heard something Lets be honest apart from the first game and two or three other home games plus four or five away games this season has been like having your teeth pulled without anaesthetic
Yes think that was wishful thinking. Saw the post the other day . Doesn’t look like there will be any changes soon .
While we are making do with a squad of 20 instead of the 25 allowed, when you read about clubs that are not short on numbers being burnt out, then you start to question the wisdom of this situation. The following comments have been made in an article, and you have to wonder if the desire for big money will be the downfall of clubs that lose their players through injury. Football's congested schedule is not just risking players' health but it is "killing the product", says Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Maheta Molango. He added that Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne going off injured in club football's biggest game is "surely not what we want to see". City lost De Bruyne to a hamstring injury early in last season's Champions League final before edging a 1-0 win over Inter Milan in their 61st game of the season. Speaking at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit, Molango said: "The Champions League final is supposed to be our Super Bowl. "It wasn't - because one of the best players in the world, De Bruyne, was out in the 30th minute; [Erling] Haaland was exhausted; Rodri, who is a top athlete, said after 60 minutes he had cramps." He added: "For us, we've reached a stage where it is not just about the health of the player, it is about us killing the product."
I just hope VI is not here next season, I know there is a fine line between keeping a clean sheet and winning ugly but we are not even winning ugly at home now
In the eighties our players never seemed to have cramp or burn out and the trophies seemed to be spread out between the top teams The top six managers now complain about too many games but that is because they are all chasing the treble or quadruple trophy haul and the owners are just chasing more and more money so even the close season is a world tour to play meaningless games against meaningless teams to promote the product The new Champions League format might well kill the Premier League because the top teams will want in cut down to 18 or even less so they can chase the trophies and money
Well eventually we might make an appointment that both fans and owners like. Then have a squad of players who suit the managers tactics and style of play. Nothing wrong with possession based football but you need a good technical squad of players- not ones who use the ball like a hot potato. Likewise direct football - unfortunately we haven’t got strikers to hold the ball up either. Just seems to be an endless cycle tbh.
Well put duggie. Domestic football will be the first to lose out. We have already seen how to accommodate all the European games, our wonderful FA Cup has been shunted into the midweek slot.
Our Good Friday clash with Leeds United has been chosen for live broadcast by Sky Sports. The new kick-off time will see the game take place under the lights at Vicarage Road at 8pm
