Was concerning, but at the end of the day they were up for it, played 5 at the back and lower league opposition have taken bigger scalps than us. At least Eddie had the bottle to finally change something around 55 minutes into the game rather than waiting for the 80 minute mark. His subs made some degree of sense. Ratings - Dubravka - 10 - He carried us vs Blackburn last night. Some superb saves and won us the pen shoot out. Has made a lot of important saves since Pope got injured. He basically kept us in the tie during normal time and was the difference during the pen shoot out. He was the biggest reason we got through really. 10/10 justified. Trippier - 6 - Some decent balls, some **** ones. Decent but nothing special. Lascelles - 4 - Terrible mistake for their goal. Schar - 5 - Looked shakey at times, but noticed that when others fail to notice opposition runs, Schar seems to read the game better than the others. Burn - 4 - Sometimes even looked exposed vs Blackburn players. Tucked in tight for their goal and left his side exposed allowing sczmodics space and Bruno was having to make up ground to cover the GAPING HOLE in the left hand side of our defence. Willock - 6 - I liked his pace in closing down opposition, we miss that when he or big joe don't play. Nothing special but he adds defensive and attacking quality when he plays with his pace and energy. Bruno - 5 - Some decent work but his passing was way off, mostly off tonight. Worked hard, did reasonably well defensively. Longstaff - 4 - More **** finishing and crying about being tackled. Gordon - 6 - Good goal, should have had another 1-2 though. Isak - 3 - Barely did anything. Still doesn't look fully fit Murphy - 5 - Worked hard but that's about it. Barnes - 2 - Dreadful. I can see why he's not starting. He has moments of quality in him, but doesn't work hard, doesn't make runs into the box or anywhere, just waits for the ball to be played into him. Terrible miss, terrible penalty. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's still not fit. Almiron - 7 - Made the difference when he came on. Great assist, set up a few chances. Worked hard. Regardless of what people think, he justifies being one of the first names on the team sheet most games. His work rate, pace and moments of flair are important to us, even if he isn't always great in the final third. I fail to see what murphy offers more than him besides a better right footed cross. Miley - 5 Anderson - 5.5 - Not much to say but great penalty.
Let's not fool ourselves into thinking there was any positives whatsoever other than the keeper saving 2 penalties and being fortunate to get through... we were dreadful once again. I'm pleased we got through, but if Howe doesn't sort this mess out fast we've got absolutely no chance of winning this cup or finishing top half. It's not impossible he could turn things around, but all I'm seeing is Southgate tendencies.
We were utter dogshit, but Dubravka is a ****ing hero for getting us through. Not really much more to say than that.
These ratings are ****ing stupid: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ch...-united-player-ratings-blackburn-28715894.amp
What the bolocks is that?!!?!!? Longstaff and Burn a SEVEN?!! Nobody deserves a 10. Dubs a solid 9, Trippier a 4 (his delivery was repeatedly dreadful). Otherwise spot on. One point, though - Miggy looked ok in this game, but this "first name on the team sheet" bollocks?! No. He's been absolutely rank for months. I mean, they all have, but it's not like dropping him was a bad decision.
These ratings highlight just how bad the Newcastle fanbase is at reading a game of football. I've seen this fanbase blow smoke up **** players arses like Hayden, Murphy , Burn and Longstaff while at the same time bullying the likes of Joelinton and Joselu..you don't get that at any other club and I do wonder how much damage it's done over the last 70 years.
Down to the owners now. Are we forever plucky underdogs, local lads and "triers" with not a single honour anywhere to be seen? Are we always just happy with "a team the tries" which - when you think about it - was a stupid sentiment, when the reality was we demanded ownership with aspirations above promoting Sports Direct. Are we happy with a lower table manager because he's a "good guy"?Are we happy plodding along hoping to occasionally have a go at the top 6 (which is what Ashworth suggested shortly before he left, a ****ing far cry from Staveley's "win everything" war-cry)? Or do we get in a proper DoF and surrounding structure and hire a manager who can actually look to win something? Amorim, Tuchel, Slot, Nagelsman are just four. Back office costs don't come into FFP, so the owners can spend pennies on binning of Eddie, Jason and Graham to bring in top class staff to make the world ****ing sit up and listen. Is anybody worried about Howe's 4-3-3? Even Blackburn aren't. Howe's 4th was just the same as Pardew's 5th - more an indication of the league than of Newcastle United. Pardew got an 8 year deal and our owners, for all the promise of challenging for honours, fell into a Mike Ashley size trap and inexplicably believed Howe was now The One. Someone, somewhere needs to do one of two things - either put some ****ing big boy pants on and get into Phase 2 of a journey, or come out and explain we're not actually on a rocketship trajectory and it's the Howe's, Potter's and Southgate's of the world who'll be in charge of our plucky little band of merry men.
Have to say before yesterday I was wavering but I fully believe now that Eddie has taken us as far as he can go. He is so predictable now it's 4-3-3 with the same personnel. He has no plan B and yesterday he was very very lucky. If we had gone out, all hell would have broken loose. PSG at home was the peak of our season. Since then it's been a downhill run and after yesterday I dont think Eddie can change it. This team's confidence is shot, are Ashley players are reverting to type and last summers recruitment is looking more and more like a **** show. Going into a season with 20% more games with Isak and Wilson and no coverage, is borderline suicidal. I could go on but it's been done to death on here. Sorry Eddie but I have lost confidence in you.
You get it at every club tbf, the second a player has a bad fame troll twats on Twitter/FB whatever will scream how they're the worst player in the world. Those ratings were clearly written by a giddy fanboy after 7 pints.
Yes you do. You get it at every Club.It may be a very small minority or it might be a sizeable number depending on the player but to suggest it only happens at Newcastle United is absolute rubbish. And you know it is.
Tbf there's always a plan B in cup games... let's see what happens vs Wolves who're just above us in the table.
Gordon is being played as a striker, despite not being a ****ing striker. Then he gets **** on for not striking like a striker, which is bemusing. The question is, how did the ****ing Club get through the window believing another striker was not needed at Newcastle last summer? Our most expensive players, Tonali and Tino, don't even play
He scored and is our top scorer since November. He doesn't get **** cos he does ok when asked to be a striker.
