What I find funny about the age thing is that no one was talking about Caicedo and Enzo's age being a disadvantage to Endo when we signed the Japanese captain instead of Caicedo. Yet now its apparently a really important point because we beat Chelsea with a few academy players.
Plus, if the average age is calculated using the entire match day squad, we had the 348yr old (37) Adrian on the bench
it's incredibly salty. chelsea went with a strategy to buy 500 players and they'd all be young and expensive. they had a very expensive first 12 put not to mention those injured. the fact that it was their choice seems to escape the people who are getting upright about lfc youths. basically garry neville went to town on chelsea in his anger at us not getting trashed by them. he accused them of all sorts so really it's all about defending chelsea against him not against anything we said. in reality chelsea sent on really expensive subs and we sent on danns and Clark and McConnell but because tsimikas came on it means that we had the better side.
jayden danns was really belting out ynwa. love that. poor Trey didn't really know what to do with himself.
Don't think I've been so happy about winning this trophy as I am this time. I'm not sure why, maybe it's seeing how overjoyed they all were. In fact I think I might have been as happy if it had been any other game, just for the way it was won. The more I see the disallowed goal the more I realise how apoplectic I'd have been if that terrible decision and its desperate rationalisation had cost us the game. For Virgil to get another, to win in open play and not have to go through that dreadful penalty routine (which I still think is a crap way of deciding a game) yet again, all contribute to making it a memorable victory. And of course the performances of all the players - the old experienced heads coupled with the energy and enthusiasm of the young lads.
Great post. Virgil scoring the winner just seemed perfect and what had to happen. He's leading by example.
he's moved the champions wall along nicely. 1 league 1 fa cup 2 League cups 1 CL 1 super cup (who cares) 1 world club (who cares) Add in league cup final, Europa league final and two CL finals on top and thats a busy old 8 years. unlikely some i don't see losing a final as a massive failure. only idiots think like that. He's got a real shot in the Europa if he's got a fit side for the home tie. He's got a small shot i nthe FA cup as the current tie is at home but mostly cos city are still in it. The LEague will be really difficult as we need to win 11 and draw 1 v city. As i said i'd be happy with a europy final win in anfield west to go with the baby cup in anfield south but i am not greedy.
Had to change my VPN to watch that. And I'd already seen it elsewhere. Good though - Klopp still doesn't know where YNWA ends.
Ah sorry. The whole rights things makes things wierd. I can watch PL Highlights on YouTube but not Bundesliga... And I think it's worth watching again. And again.
If we can cobble a team together we should be big favourites for the Europa League and it would be great to sign off with a European trophy, even if it is "only" the second competition. PL would obviously be amazing but I just don't see us picking up enough points to do it; I think there'll be too many draws in there and we've not really shown the form against the bigger teams (the home draws against Man U and Arsenal really hurt us imo). But all we can do is take it one game at a time and see where we get to. The FA Cup would also be great but tbh it's the one I'm least bothered about for now given our squad situation and the number of games to (hopefully) play.
For the remaining of the season, if Manchester and Arsenal do not have more points than us, the title is ours. I can say the title is for us to lose.
the europa is the only one item on the walk of champions klopp didn't add to. he was a more of away from doing it. I hope we can do it. there's nobody in thst competition that could live with anfield home ties with our full first team. it's the amount of games quickly now thst the issue. we are a hairs breadth from this team kelleher Bradley konate vvd Robertson sloboszlai endo maccallister salah nunez diaz we are a month from adding alisson, jones and trent to it. the problem we all see is that keeping thst side together is going to be very hard given the 2 games per week nature of things going forward. we need more subs for 60mins in games. Elliott, gakpo, tsimikas, quansah, gomez can do so much but we really need a couple cms too. much depends on really how close are we to salah, nunez and Szoboszlai. I don't get the impression they are really bad.
I think we've got one more title in us. We're probably about 20% chance of winning the league. Probably about the same at winning Europa. FA Cup still plenty of players in it... but about 10% doesn't sound too unrealistic. I just about think we've got one more piece of silver coming this year.
