He had the misfortune of following the most successful Saints manager ever (he played his part as a defensive king pin) and did a fine job nonetheless. 1989/90 is one of my favourite ever seasons with free flowing, attacking football and plenty of goals... I'll never forget that the Liverpool Echo were dubbing him "Baldrick" because he said he had a plan to beat them in '89, this shut them up!... He was always a gentleman, R.I.P. Chris...
Chris Nichol - Great defender and gave us some exciting wins as manager. Is he the only player to score all 4 goals in a 2-2 draw?
I think he was one ofLawrie's most inspired signings at a time when we seemed adept at buying all the better players who seemed to be featured in "Shoot!." He was a great player for us in an era when we were used to signing top players. I think it is true that he seemed an anti-climax after Lawrie but, in hingsight, I think he was a better manager than many of use felt at the time. Sad to hear of his passing. He always struck me as being a gent.
In Matt's autobiography he mentioned that Tim Flowers let in two goals and got himself injured. Tim is on the treatment table with a physio and Chris is giving him a telling off. The physio said that Tim had to go to hospital.Chris said to Tim " If your legs broken sorry. If not w*nker." RIP Chris
I quite like that. Full end of standing would definitely contribute to a better atmosphere. You might end up with noise coming from both ends which has never happened at St Marys. Away fans shoved in a corner will quiet them down too.
Is that official from the club? Wasn't the plan that only the back half of the Northam would be safe standing?
Yep, I received an email from the club asking for feedback as a ST holder. In the middle of the survey this appeared.
Not sure where I would move to though. I like that end as we normally attack that end in the second-half but I wouldn't want to be behind the goal. Maybe the tactics will change though to attack the Northam in the second half if it is all home fans so could go to either the Kingsland/Northam or Itchen/Northam corner.
