    I really don't get refs.

if I were a ref I'd have targeted caicedo and got him in the book or at least a no more stern talking to within the first 10mins of a game.

he's a clear danger and menace and has zero sense or control. I'd be laser focused on every time he goes near the ball.

Was decent at Brighton to be fair. Won lots of tackles and his passing forward was pretty good.

But then same could be said for Cucurella before he went to Chelsea as well.

Was never worth the 115m but would say a 50/60m was a reasonable fee for him but chelsea are mugs and Brighton had zero reason to sell which bumped price up.

This is the danger of hanging your hat on players who've had a decent 6 months. I know we were in for him at these crazy figures too (very uncharacteristic of us, who knows what happened there).

It will be difficult for the lad to get back to form as the pressure & spotlight is a different animal at Chelsea, and he looks like he can't handle it.

I think a lot of problems is that they’ve shoved all these players with little experience in together and expected them to gel right away.

Let’s be honest Caicedo is most probably a better player than Endo. But Endo has come into a somewhat settled side, even if the midfield is somewhat new. Caicedo prob would have been fine coming into our midfield however hes has to come into an underperfming team alongside 6 other new players who have no prem experience and a new manager trying to get all these players that have played diff formations and tactics to fit into a new system.

Lot of talk about our rebuilt midfield but we’ve still have settled defence and forward line ahead of them plus players like Elliott & jones (Thiago & Bajcetic) who have been here a while. I’m not sure on stats but can’t imagine we’ve played many games where we’ve had Endo mac and szobo start?

If we seriously look at what brighton have done (and its great) then their form in he league was to win 18 games and lose 12.

They got 6th on 62 points. They got a lot of good results off man utd, Chelsea, us. all clubs in poor form and the international break helped as well.

You are throwing caicedo into a situation where he's not just asked to sit with macallister with a sold back line behind him. Hels running about wildly kicking lumps left and right and being exposed as the back line behind him are woefully poor (the amount of mistakes yesterday out of gusto, diaisi and colwil was ridiculous)

Add on top they are a slow slow build up type team and there's no mitoma to run all day out on the left. sterling hardly did anything yesterday and mudrky even less.

Ciacedo is on the ball a lot and expected to make some plays and he can't.

What i see is a guy who can't control his tackles at all. he just ploughs in with no concern for anything full speed and is constantly late and missing things. thats basic. I also see a pretty average level of control and ability to pass.

However remember brighton destroyed our poor team 3-0 last year with colwil at CB and Caicdeo at 6 and lallana at 10. they could break well and expose or problems and they even played a 4231 type set up with ferguson up top.

Most refs are reluctant to brandish cards early, but a ref's responsibility is to ensure the game is played fairly, and part of that is to ensure the players' safety. So if a ref sees that a player is reckless and likely to cause injury with his play he has a duty to warn him straight away, and punish him if he continues.
Of course we can't hear what's said, but it seems as though they are purely reactionary - they wait for a serious offence and then punish it, rather than head it off in the first place.
I've seen a number of games recently where you just know someone is likely to get hurt if a player continues, so a ref should be able to see that too and take steps to prevent it.

sky were saying that the ref was arsing what happened so var/pgmol won't be happy at all that sky were saying what was going on

var apparently were lying to the ref saying it was an unfortunate slip.

it's pretty clear that as it wasn't a dive in tackle but a reckless lunged foot to push off to run that nearly broke an ankle. I could understand missing it but the ref should have got the idea he's missed a bad one and booked him quickly on the next foul

How about that - we've won games in fantastic ways, this is the first time we've had to win a game twice.

Brilliant effort from everyone with special mentions for Kelleher and Macca and Endo who ran themselves ragged. Wonderful determination and focus from all the youngsters too.

The less said about the officials, the better. They gave us a mountain to climb but climb it we did and placed our flag on the top.

    Up the Mighty Reds.

    Add vvd.

I loved watching him telling lads to shift over for passes as Chelsea could barely press. He was directing clark and mcconnell where to go run. good communication and help for them to keep switched on as well.

endo was clobbered and just kept going as well. he lasted the 120mins despite being kicked as well.

Yes you're right. Virgil's leadership is being felt all through the team. Add in his crucial goals and raising the team's levels, he's not only the perfect CB, he's the perfect captain.

Nunez is a minor muscle injury. Maybe jumping the barrier was part of his recovery regime.
