Do we need to sign a winger in January as well as a striker?

Well, we all now know that Marv is out for 4 months, which is a real shame because he's a cracking little player.

This really is bad for us because we lack squad depth to begin with.

At the moment Obertan, Sammy and Raylor are our RM options. They're good players but does anyone else feel that we need better?

Obertan first choice with Sammy as cover isn't really making me feel comfortable. Ober's got fantastic pace and I have faith that he can get better with his deliveries, but we need someone on that side that can deliver a ball in. Raylor has great crossing ability, good passing ability, and a great dead ball ability, but as an overall player I rate him, but again think we need better.

Sammy looks very promising, good dribbling, some great touches, great pace, but it would be too much to rely on the lad when he's so inexperienced. I have faith that he could be a great player one day, he didn't look overwhelmed at City, and threatened at times, but he's going to take IMO a couple of years to be considered as a good first choice player. If we were aiming for an average mid table position then perhaps, but I know that deep down we all want to finish in the top 8 at least.

I'm not just thinking of the RM position here, who would replace Jonas if god forbid he got a bad injury? We've been so lucky that he's managed to stay pretty much injury free after 3 years of English style crunching tackles on his twig like legs.

It's frightening at times to think about how much we lack squad depth.

Who would you all think we should go for?

IMO the winger and CB area needs strengthening the most now.

 

Nah, I think we need to priortise with a new centre back, and a striker in Jan before we go looking for another winger.

I believe, in Obertan, Raylor, Sammy, and Jonas (Who is also a RW) we have adequate cover. Correct me if im wrong, but I think Benny can also play RW if needed.

 

I'd rather have Benny in the center behind Ba or Best. He'd just end up running into the center anyway, and Ben Arfa isn't the sort of player you'd want to track back, you need to leave him up so we can attack on the break.

We should sign -

CB - Ridgewell
RB/LB - Pieters/Cissokho
Winger - Hoillet, Mibwa? Or whatever he's called lol
Striker - Maiga

 

Cover needed all over the place...........injuries are going to come..............make that a CB,LB,RW and striker please Fat Man.

 

I reckon we'll just go for a striker and either CB or LB (or both. LB who can cover CB like) in January. Pardew did state that we'd only bring in two players. I hope we'd at least try to get Hoillet in some sort of pre-contract agreement (and pick him up on a free in summer)

As for strikers.. Maiga seems nailed on. De Jong or Giroud seem to be decent shouts.
Cissokho and Pieters seem to be the big LB names. As for CB, who knows? Someone who wouldn't mind sitting on the bench. Ridgewell seems likely, don't know where we are on that one though?
And Hoillet is one of the first names down for RW choice.

Basically, as you said Tash, all those names seem the obvious choices for who we're going to sign in those positions. Carr could of course crop up with another gem though! Doubt we'll bring them all in in January though. As Pardew said, probably only 2.

 

LW: Jonas, Fergie, Marveaux will be back
RW: Obertan, Raylor
Emergency cover for both sides: Sammy, Ben Arfa, (Maiga,) Lover, Santon

Wouldnt mind a RW in summer but we have priorities - CB and striker, plus keeping who we have.

 

And M'Biwa is a centre half.

Ha, doubt we'd sign anymore than 2 players in January. Unfortunatley, I think a striker, and a centre back are needed more. If Colo, or Saylor got injured, i'd honestly curl into a ball and cry. But, I'd love to see Hoillet sign, he is a cracking player!

 

pards has said 2 in and more to fill gaps if others leave if it's just 2 in then it has to be a LB and a FWD if say someone like smith/lover goes then as we have massive cover in midfield then i'd say get a CB in before we go anywhere near cover for the wing as those mentioned can cover it as well as Abeid

I know he's a LB, I just said "LB/RB" because I put down Pieters and Cissokho.

 

I think we can probably take 2 winger-based injuries until Feb and still be O.K., Striker and CB are the positions we MUST fill in January

But they're both LBs? I've seen you put him at RB in your formation porn before and you wanted us to sign them both in summer and play him at RB, I distinctly remember. Just confusing is all.

 

At the moment I would say we are in more need of a CB than a striker, as at least we have backup if Best or Ba get injured (even though Shola and Mclovin are ****). Hopefully Smith, Mclovin and one more go in January so we can get some better quality backups!

 

This. Also I heard Abeid can play out wide. IMO in Jan I think we'll get Ridgewell to cover CB/LB and a striker. In the summer we can sort out the wings and same with the full-back areas.

 

AMR - just signed Obertan although we should try and get Barnetta on a free in the summer.

DC - Mbiwa would be decent

ST - Maiga and Luuk De Jong would be brill

Surely a left back is the main priority so that we can finally get a perfect back 4, with Santon at right back. I want to see a left back, a cheap 4th choice centre back, could be anyone, Hoilett for sure, and then maybe a striker although I would insist on him not being African or Best and Lover are our only options in january/February.

 

Pieters would be nice.

Where does Nicolas Gaitan play? Not for us, but if United sign him and he plays on the right/wing - Antonio Valencia could be worth a shot to sign? Always loved that player and would look amazing in a toon shirt
