Will you still like Will Still if he doesn't become our manager? Sorry. I agree about the fan thing. I can't help but think that he'd be more accepted than Beale, simply on the basis of the positive news stories about him. He'd be a gamble, I think, but one that should be taken if we get the chance.
Literally the opposite has been observed to be true many times in the past. It goes like this, natural right back is shifted to left back, plays out of his skin but is considered non natural by fanbase, after relentless pressure club bring in sub par player natural to the position.
I think the main problem with Beale was that he wasn't Still so I'd expect him to be very well received. Don't know if it's just because Still appeared to be our number one choice or if there's anything more substantial to it.
Will Will Still still be on a good wage. If Will Still's wages are increased will Will Still's wages still be reflected in Will Still's will?
Will Still not happy about constraints, there's probably more here. Never ever heard of him until Mowbray got pedalled, dunno why people think he'll be a Messiah here, will be absolutely slaughtered over the road after one defeat, as per normal jogging.
Spot on mate, everyone's a gamble. You could list a dozen managers, off the top of your head, who've failed at one club but a success at the next or vice versa. Fans can blame the club because Neil and Mowbray had a moan, when they went, but the club provided enough for a promotion and, without so many key injuries, possibly a second. The managers will claim, of course, that it was their management skills that made a silk purse out of the pig's ear they were handed. There'll be those who want Still, get him then blame the club if he fails ... ... despite any of his claims that he can do the job with the tools he has. It's an easy game to play. Neil walked out blaming lack of control, went to his dream job at Stoke with total control and took them to their lowest position in modern times. I can't remember who he blamed tbh, players I'd imagine for failing to see his vision
Appointing Will Still would be us punching above our weigh for sure, I think because of the owners profile, the way in which we recruit coupled with having a nice stadium and big crowds is appealing for a lot of managers who would usually only consider top tier jobs, I've no doubt from reading those comments him coming up here and having a look wet the appetite. This is a great club when viewed objectively and without the basket case element being considered. All of that said, I'm fully behind Mike Dodds for however long it lasts and hopefully he can win us some games nd get us closer to a top-6 spot.
I think it would be an exciting, different kind of appointment..... as you say,a gamble, but maybe one worth taking. Interesting where it might leave Dodds and Proctor. As long as he doesn't have a mole on his cheek he would probably escape abuse until a couple of poor performances....then he'd be fair game for our self-entitled intelligentsia. Too young,no Championship experience, paid a release clause we could have used for a striker,etc.etc.
Over the road will complain about Klopp or Pep if they lost a game as our head coach, not really an accurate reflection of the normal Sunderland fan like.
After the last 3 head coach appointments, the one thing we can say is an absolute fact is that some of our fan base will STILL criticise the new incumbent, before arrival and during their tenancy. The real issue these days is that everyone can have a voice that can be heard because of social media. In the past, a few groans in the pub or a few expletives from the terraces wouldn't be picked up and analysed in depth by pseudo journalists as they are now. Hopefully, whoever picks up the poisoned chalice, has a thick skin, and preferably no interest in social media. Whoever it is has my full support whilst at the club! HTL
Only around a dozen clubs, out of the 92, will have any success each season ... ... so you're on pretty safe ground predicting a manager won't succeed and will be sacked sooner or later.
That's a very narrow list isn't it and probably one we arent likley to attract many from? These days most managers end up sacked, can say most managers in football have failed at their last job!
That's the thing, Mowbray gone after losing spell of what,,, five games ? Beale, only 12 games , 4 wins, 4 losses. ? How many managers have done worse but gone on to do really well ? Ok it did seem to be going downhill under Beale, and he wasn't a popular choice from the start but you never know in football. Cooper for me. Although being Welsh and no Tom cruise he'll be on a hiding to nothing from the start from some dafties.
