Has anyone watched back the second goal (I know it is painful). I hate having a scapegoat, but Rothwell lost the ball (fine, he was trying to play out under RM instructions), but then he didn't try to win it back. He just felt sorry for himself and in that split second the Hull player stole another yard and was one on one with Baz. If he had tried he may have at least put off the player or even caught him. Take a look. I think that is the no1 reason RM pulled him off.
I don’t get that I see Adarma, Che, Joe and Ryan’s running and what that achieves I think Will’s is more because he goes box to box, but it often doesn’t have an impact
Bournemouth fans said that Rothwell was a luxury player who doesn't work in their current hardworking team set up. That seems to be true.
Aribo showed that he is too. Charles might not be physical enough, or calm enough on the ball but I'd still have him in there because he is a proper DM, has the positional discipline and is better at breaking up the play than other options whilst Downes is out. BUT, crucially, RM doesn't seem to agree and we CANNOT start with that same midfield again. I have no issue with Smallbone in his normal position but think he could do with a rest anyway. Assuming Downes is still out I'd like to see Charles, Aribo and Stu as the 3 for Millwall. RM talks about the players needing to be brave a lot but he needs to take a look at himself and not start his favourites every single game when they are clearly badly in need of a rest and badly off form.
Bloody awesome stuff, I love my club and Baz is the man! This sort of stuff is more important than the match, shame we couldn't have gotten a win to put the gloss on it! Thanks for sharing, made me a bit emotional reading that!
You're talking about running with the ball, Will's running is more selfless and off the ball with covering runs and making himself available, basically he's a team player.
Exactly my thoughts mate. He didn't have to do that. She would have been made up with a generic corporate card. The fact he took his own time to do that on his birthday on the back of a **** result, when probably all he wanted to do is to go home says everything about his character. Like you said a real credit to his parents as such a young man. What really impressed me is he addressed her by name and just talked to her
Thank you LS for sharing your news about your daughter meeting GB after the game. Honestly, it brought tears to my eyes - that was the most welcome news on what was a dire night of football for us all. Thank you again for sharing this news.
You’re not the only one to shed a tear mate. That’s a story she will treasure for ever, as will you of course. Thank you for sharing that.
Not just her. It’s an event that needs the widest audience, to show the good side of footballers. The low life’s in football need to look at this and think!
What a beautiful story, damn near choked me as a massive lump appeared in my throat just as I was trying to swallow a bite of my cheese and ham roll. Your obvious love for your daughter and mini Lincoln shines through this and previous posts about your match days and you too deserve a big pat on the back for being such a caring parent.
On the topic of DM, I can understand why RM doesn’t fully trust Charles in that position. I don’t think there’s an issue with his positioning but there does seem to be, as seen against Bristol City, an issue with his ability to move the ball around quickly and accurately enough to beat the press. Being able to do that is as important as being in the right place, plus the way we play the role requires someone who is comfortable to receive the ball with players on his back and facing his own goal. In some ways you can compare it to a striker who is great when he’s running on to a ball but not so good at receiving it with his back to the goal and the CB in his shorts. At Bristol, during the first half RM moved him to the right and Smallbone into the DM spot, which made it easier for Charles as he was now receiving the ball mainly whilst side on and aware of incoming players. I have said a few times that I shout “man on” at the screen more often when Charles has the ball than when any other player has it. I think he could be a decent DM in a 2, but isn’t as good by himself.
I'm talking about running without the ball too I don't agree that he does, but I'm aware that we sometimes see things differently, when things aren't going well especially
Absolutely love it - many thanks for sharing a personal story with us Lincoln; every so often a brief glimpse of kindness and humanity does wonders for the soul.
Agree with you on the first bit, but on the RM bit, I think its easy for us to criticise when ... ... He has limited options ... He says he did because it worked in the previous game v Hull ... They have the fitness stats and they don't necessarily say he needs a rest more than anyone else (Maybe 2 games a week is telling on us a little, I don't know) ... The players on the pitch don't appear to be adapting to circumstances And that may be the game that has really proven Aribo's worth to him, I hope so
