A bravery to play. He's commending them for their bravery. The thing people keep calling for and blaming LR for not allowing them to do. Of all teams to show it against, this surely shows it's a penny dropping for the players.
Maybe, not a fan of all that tbh. It's just that the stats only record the number of shots, not the quality of the chances. I'd say that many of our first half shots really should have been converted whereas Saints' were more speculative. Simple really.
Keep thinking I’m on the wrong board does not feel right, someone must be able to start the ranting off somehow.
We were fantastic and looked a top class side tonight, with no weak links and free flowing football that we haven't aspired to in years, but... ... some of our finishing was very poor - we should have at least doubled our score. Luckily it didn't cost us, but it could have done.
Yeah, the stats only record the dry data. Which is why you read them in the wider context of the game. You tell them what they 'mean' by applying context, not them telling you what happened. They can never be detailed enough for that.
That's why stats like xG exist, to give deeper analysis of the quality of chances and the quality of play from both teams, rather than just shots or possession.
Obviously too early to tell, but it has the feel of a real coming-of-age moment for this squad. Hopefully it ends up being as such.
1.34 xG for us first half to 0.48 for them. 0.92 for them second half, 0.26 for us. They scored one second half, we scored 2 first half. Seems about on the money. 1.6 xG for us for the full match, 1.4 for them. Round down for them and up for us and hey presto you have the final result.
xG wasn't in the stats I quoted. How have I ended up making a simple point and arguing about it with the two most angsty people on here? Sheesh.
