Absolutely. So, either way, there is no reason why the model won't work up here (or up there, cos I'm not currently there, I'm here)
Exactly! I genuinely don't understand how anyone can find fault with the principles of 'the model'. Yes, not everything is running perfectly just now, but the idea is sound.
I think there's a middle ground here. The model requires a reboot and restructure, not a complete overhaul. Arsenal when Wenger came in are a perfect example of a similar system working - they had a very good dof - a stalwart of a coach who stayed in Pat rice - I'd be amazed if they didn't all meet and see if they could work together. It's all about the quality of the people and a joined up approach. Although I think Dodds and proctor are promoted above where they should be I don't for a second think they were aligned with Beales man management style(non existent) because it seems the players get on with Dodds. This again points to speakman bringing in someone without finding out if Beale and Dodds could work together which is poor leadership.
Attracting established players I would put us well behind Boro, just because of the instability within our club.
It is I agree - just a tweak needed to allow having two or three more players nearer their peak in the squad imo.
Anyone who had slightest bit of success (compared to what we usally get). Keane was successful when compared to other ****e we have had but reality is it was nowt special. And he hasn't been a club manager for 13 years ffs! Allardyce wouldn't fit the club these days. Surprised no one has mentioned PDC cause he had the players sussed . There is so much positive stuff to take out the club recently, getting the coach right is difficult and this hopefully is a blip! I still think Beale hasn't gone purely on results. I think what people had heard about him being difficult has come true. I agree the club could have found the same information if they did a bit a due diligence and it reflects poorly. But they moved to change it quickly despite the fact it reflects poorly on them and is quite embarrassing for them!
Speakman made a mistake in appointing Beale but we don't know the parameters he is working under. Maybe he wasn't given the money to pay for somebody currently in emplyment. Maybe beale was about all we could afford and speakman thought he was worth a punt. We need to be very careful we don't throw the baby out with the bathwater here in terms of the model. If we aren't going to compete with the top championship teams for wages then we have to be clever and offer something different. Which is what we are doing. Up until the last couple of months it has been going reasonably well. Maybe it needs tweaked but I hope we continue giving Young players an opportunity and continue - pre beale anyway- to play exciting football. The football in last 18 months has been breathtaking at times, let's not forget that. We've veered away from that with beale but I hope the next appointment will be brave and bold. The other question is the coaching position. The beale one was strange but how would you feel going into a new dressing room with no assistant and having to work with two guys already in the building who are liked by players. How do you go about shaking things up and making changes? Not sure it would ever work. Neil and Mogga weren't happy with set up and Beale clearly wasn't either. That's a massive concern.
Arsenal didn't have a director of football when Wenger was there. In fact, he's on record as saying he wouldn't work with one. Pat Rice didn't fulfil that role. He was a coach.
I think we might eventually have to go with a foreign coach who is more used to working in this way. A couple of non-league managers I know have said they wouldn't want to work under this kind of system (not that it would happen in non-league) but they are used to the traditional British way of doing things.
Rice a coach already there. Dodds a coach already here That's the similarity I talk about - however personal football achievements wise Rice is on a different level to dodds no disrespect to dodds tbf.
The last three managers all took the money despite knowing exactly what the set up is ... ... we need to bring someone is who can cope with it and back up their assertions that they can. For some supporters, whoever is brought in, they'll criticise his line up, tactics and subs. It's easy after the event tbh ... ... until Birmingham scored there wasn't a squeak from anyone.
Not sure how old you are but my recollection of football growing up was Liverpool winner my everything. That was before Fergie made ManU the dominant force. I suppose more money has exaggerated the divide but it’s one that has always been there.
A well thought out response ! We are all concerned about what is happening behind the scenes. Hopefully Dods can get a few wins to get us back on track. At the very least give us a few results to give Speakman the time for due diligence and keep us safe for a reset next season. Hopefully Dodds really what's the job and gives it a right good go.
Unfortunately true. Hard to believe how much of a joke we’ve been for the most part of this season. Gone backwards.
