Sorry I was replying to a comment about us paying 15k to Dack with Mowbray then saying we wouldn’t pay the fees for a striker. Those two things are connected.

I read about £15k for Dack, thanks Mowbray!

That’s the thing. When facts like that appear (presuming it’s true) you compare Dack’s salary to the other top paid players at the club (Clarke, Neil, Ballard) and if he had performed and been fit to play like they are up top we’d have the spine we’re after.

Every transfer you make isn’t going to be good, we can’t blame Dack when he’s not even in the matchday squad most of the time. £15k is hardly earth shattering wages in this day and age at this level, plenty of other clubs have players out injured who’ll be on similar or more.

He was also free so all in he’s cost us less than Mayenda who’s been sent out on loan.

Dack has been a cracking championship player over the years. We beat a number of clubs for his signature. I dare say had he been injury free he would have played more than not and have his share of goals. He is still the best we have in terms of in the box movement.

We can blame Mowbray as the data told us he was unfit and finished, he should never have been anywhere near us, but good old Tony got his man, we should have just bought him a trailer full of chocolate Orange, it would have been cheaper with as much effect on the pitch

What data showed us he’s finished? He wasn’t playing at Blackburn because JDT chose to play with a front 3 which he doesn’t fit into. One player we brought in on a free is hardly shattering our budget, yes it was a risk which unfortunately didn’t pay off but Dack was quality before he done his ACL - hindsight is a brilliant thing. TM obviously knew him which helped get him here but he would’ve also known how much ability Dack has and if we could get that out of him it would’ve been a good decision. That’s football we can’t get every transfer right

Were you the only person in england who didnt know about his injury record?

But we can make sure we dont get them badly wrong?

If the cluba hierarchy bought Dack as a present for Mowbray then they are weak and lacking in commitment to their vision. In my opinion anyway.

My guess is Pritchard wanted away and we said off you go. Dack was a player to get to fill that position. Then no bugger wanted Pritch...

So no player has ever came back from an ACL injury? We didn’t pay a fee for him so the risk wasn’t really that great was it? If we shelled out £5m then fair enough but we haven’t.

I see Dack is the easy target now, based on speculative websites wage figures.

If he was fit, he's probably be our biggest goal threat from midfield

Even with his injury record, you'd take the gamble on him on a free.

I’ve made my thoughts known on our recruitment.. I do think we should be adding a few leaders into the group because it’s not all about all out potential you need a bit of headstrong in there and players who can take the game by the scruff of the neck when you’re up against it but overall our recruitment has been decent.

Minus the 3 relegated teams our squad is one of the most valuable in the league and that’s a credit to the recruitment. I think the chances of us going up this season are slim to none so this summer has to be a big one for us. A few players will be moved on and it’s imperative we reinvest properly to not only replace them but sign quality in the areas we lack.

I was looking at some squad values recently and I was surprised. We are up at 5 or 6 in the league. Even then it looks downplayed. Ballard as at about £4m and Neil at about £6m. Much of the valuation of course is based on age. West Brom have an old squad so are half the value of us. I think most would agree they are better equiped than us for a promotion push.

This coming summer feels a big one for the owners and how we progress. I am sure we bring in £50m plus as I cant see Clarke staying, nor Ballard. I think the offers for Neil will be too much too. That is the engine of the team gone. Big challenge then for Harvey. What is he like at shopping in the next price bracket. Clarke isnt replaced by a £2m bairn, nor is Neil. It needs to be players in that £6-£8m bracket coming in. I am already dreading the summer window to be honest.

    I'm the opposite mate.

We know we can keep finding good players at this level, Mundle's value will double by the end of the season imo.

But it'll be fascinating seeing what we can buy for £6m+.

I’m the same. Nobody in the team is irreplaceable they’re championship players it’s just down to us to recruit the right replacements,

But can we afford 8m players? Because 8m players require the wages of an 8m player and that's a lot more than we currently shell out. And would mean certain players would be on 10 times other ones. Tricky.

Personally I think we can buy more expensive players, old enough to be 'ready' ...

... but young enough to keep the wages reasonable.

I wasn’t blaming Dack I’m pinning this on the former manager who suddenly can do no wrong.

I sometimes look at Alex Ferguson at united as a yardstick.
He wasn't a successful player and struggled with utd at first.
He wasn't even that liked by some players.

Brian Clough, don't get me started, successful player, should of been our manager. Enough said.

Bill shankly with Bob Paisley, (should of been our manager <laugh> )

    Right people right time ?
Maybe they could of failed at other clubs ???

I could go on all day about coach v manager, demographics of fans and clubs over time etc.

Yeah mate, he could set everything up how he expects it to pan out and everything go against it from one or two mistakes.

But I'm a believer in you make your own luck, attack is the best defence and he who dares wins.

I don't like seeing us sitting back lately again after going for games under Mowbray and Neil.
