Exciting times! I still think we will fall short of the top 6. But it’s nice to be in the mix, I hope the boys prove me wrong!!
Yes it's tough near the top and teams like Norwich , Coventry and Preston have to do the same and they may only 13 games left to do it in .
A few weeks ago I thought we could only get 6 th. spot at best as the top 5 seemed to be clear , but West Brom have been poor lately and have been dragged into the group that includes us. Southampton on Tuesday will be a really tough one and I hate saying it , but think we will lose . However the West Brom game could be a big one for us , winning it would be great and even see us go above them .
We're grinding results out at the moment; winning some very close games. That's a good sign. However, we need to click. We need to play much better against the top six sides than we have done against the relegation fodder. Time for a few of our January signings to step up. Seri's return will hopefully have a galvanising effect too. A couple of players who've not had a chance recently need to show Liam he was wrong to not include them. (eg. Connolly). I still think we're a couple of quality squad players short of a playoff side (if Jacob and Docherty are the answer, then the question is pretty desperate), but it looks like the spirit and determination is there, especially in the centre of defence and that can make the difference at the *** end of the season. Go for it, City. #UTT.
Winning 10 + from 13 or 14 is league champions form . I cannot see us or our rivals doing that , but hope I am wrong and its us
In the last 10 years the average points needed to finish 6th is 74.4. With 80 being highest and 69 being the lowest.
I think 10 wins won’t happen given the teams we have to play. I reckon 8 wins might see us through but it’s very tight up there.
If we can win the next two, that would put us ahead of West Brom and we’d be in the driving seat. But it’s a big ‘if’.
Certainly depends who the wins come against. Wins against teams like WBA and Cov are virtually worth double.
We very likely won’t play Coventry in mid-March, that’s Cup sixth round day and Cov have Maidstone United in the fifth round. I reckon if it is rearranged it’ll be 17th or 24th April.
Looking at the fixtures the teams above us will also be taking points of each other so may not seem as bad as the fixture list looks, add to that looks like Omur may now start getting more game time and he looks like a right battling little twat not afraid to get his foot in either.
Without putting it too mildly I think the season ultimately rests on the result against WBA. Regardless of other teams playing each other, I think that game will go a long way, if not the whole way, to determining the shape of our season.
