I put this on the rugby thread, Chilco. Not the Youtube link, but the BBC obituary. Why don't we use it??

Because it’s got a silly name. Why not just call it the Rugby thread? We don’t call the various football threads “Corners, Throw ins, and Goals”!

    This is jaw-dropping!

Wightman second on return from injury
Britain's Jake Wightman finished second in the 1500m on his return from long-term injury.

Wightman set an indoor personal best of three minutes 34.06 seconds, 0.07 seconds behind American Hobbs Kessler and outside the Olympic qualifying time of 3:33.50.

Remember the Olympic 1500m gold medallist running outside 3.50 in 2016? How 1500m running has changed since that awful race where all the runners should have been disqualified for not really racing. If Ingebrigtsen is to win the 1500m gold he is going to have to run at around 3.27 as the likes of Josh Kerr have a faster finishing speed in a race at 3.29 pace!!

New 10 year deal for British GP at Silverstone. Excellent news - one of the best tracks in F1. Although I'm sure Verstappen will disagree. :emoticon-0136-giggl

Kelvin Kiptum, the fastest marathon runner in history, has died at 24 in a car crash. He was the favourite to become the first person ever to break the 2 hour mark...he had shattered the record in October with a 2:00:35.

Some people might have mixed feelings about whether angling should be regarded as a sport, but having known a few anglers in my time, they are most definitely bonkers enough to outdo aficionados of just about any other pastime in the joy of their chosen field.

So some genuinely good news for pike enthusiasts: Lloyd Watson made his first visit to Chew Valley Lake, just up the road from me, and broke the British record with a monster weighing in at 47lb 5oz (21.4 kg).

The pike was returned to the lake after posing for photos with Lloyd and his mates.

Each to their own. But something about sitting in the pissing rain, freezing cold just to catch a fish, hold it for 30 seconds and then throw it back again sounds utterly soul destroying.

I agree, it’s almost as bad as being a football fan.

Not as bad as being a fish minding your own business and then being whipped out and then thrown back. Being constantly rejected can be so bad for yr mental health

A pike that big should be old and wise enough not to fall for the fancy lures and baits they used to tempt it. It only has itself to blame, and its friends will never stop reminding it.

I've no idea how effective it will be, but Mercedes have been very clever with their front wing design.
