The (13:37) at Haydock, a Class-3 Handicap Chase over a distance of just under 2m4f on heavy ground, is an interesting event even with only 6-runners scheduled to face the starter. Selection is the Flemensfirth gelding (Damsire: Old Vic), Zhiguli, who has a squeak to give a good account if fully tuned-up after a 67-day break. First-time cheek-pieces applied. Pretty grim day for me too. First pick out with the washing. In the Ascot Bumper, Roaring Home ran well to finish 4th of 10, after getting a bit wound-up at the start. Favourite won comfortably under a good ride from Jonathan Burke.
