I agree your comments on a personal level about a keeper commanding his box but iirc some coach did some work on how many goals were scored when a keeper comes and misses against staying on his line and surprisingly the better option was to stay put. I believe this is now reflected in the coaching goal keepers receive. A goal keeper now has to be very confident that he is going to get to the ball before committing to it. Then again I may have imagined it. Personally, bring back the flying pig, he used to clear centre forwards out when he came for the ball. He may have given further thought to that if up against Billy Whitehurst mind. For those younger supporters, I'm talking about Barry Siddall.
It was just below me in the west stand and there’s no way he couldn’t have seen that go out for a throw from the position he was in, mental.
I agree. He is much too quiet as well. Needs to find his voice and command the 18 yard box better. Still a good keeper though, who is a great shot stopper.
Beale, "That 15-20 minute spell, we looked a really good team so it's incredible how we can be how we were in the first half and how good we were in the second half but that's what I suppose it's like managing a young team at times." He's pulling no punches is he, but the players are responding which is all it takes. They play with such confidence, at times, that you easily forget how young they are ... ... we've lost Stewart, Dack, Evans, Pritchard but, at times, looked like a team full of swagger. I think O'Nien has gradually become more important simply because of his age.
That does him a great disservice imo. The lad seems to just get better and better every match, and you can tell he absolutely loves the club and is thankful for the opportunity every time he steps on the pitch. Not only has he been one of our best players recently, he also has a fantastic attitude. Seems to be a brilliant leader, but has fun with the lads as well. Every single person at the club seems to love him, and rightly so. I hope he's here for a very long time.
Interesting when you compare the stats for 09 and Ballard on a per 90 minute basis. Ballard is usually mentioned incredibly highly, yet the stats suggest they are both playing at very similar levels. https://fbref.com/en/stathead/playe...3-2024&player_id6=21512407&p6yrfrom=2023-2024 Edit and here is 09 and Ballard in comparison to the 2 Leicester Centre Backs, again very interesting https://fbref.com/en/stathead/playe...3-2024&player_id4=1900032e&p4yrfrom=2023-2024
I’ m quite liking his response . It’s like “ ok job done , let’s kick off and get another”. I’ve said before, love our team celebrations , where the scorer is congratulated on a more individual level allowing him to enjoy the moment ( especially if in front of the fans) . Can’t abide the premiership of whole team smothering the scorer and standing motionless in their love in.
Watched tha access all areas on YouTube and what made me smile was Rusyn when he came in was saying hello to the staff and kids at bottom of stairs but was talking English with a bit of a smile on his face so I think he is starting to warm to the club and the area. Just a little observation but these email things do make a big difference.
I don't think we played badly 1st half just didn't create a whole lot. Think he's being a bit over critical but also stating that there is still room for improvement.
We've not heard from Sensiblegreeny, or have I overlooked it, like his input but he's keeping his thoughts to himself about this one.
Their manager complained about Forshaw not being allowed back onto the pitch after treatment just before Clarke scored. But I watched that bit of the "full 90" video. From the whistle to resume play, to about where Jack cuts inside is just over 30s. So nothing to whine about.
There's also a clause, apparently, that says a player can't return directly into an area where they can affect play. Anyway, balls to them, we deserved to win
@JamesCopley_ Michael Beale says Elliot Embleton has rolled his ankle. The man has absolutely no luck at all. #SAFC
From SAFC forever in our Blood on fb :- GAFFER TALKS TACTICS Michael Beale explained the thought process behind the team against Plymouth, and spoke of the various tactical options he now has at his disposal due to a couple of extra options in attack... RUSYN IN BEHIND "I just felt that at the weekend, we knew that at times Plymouth would sit deep with a back five and four in front. So I just wanted to get three dribblers on the pitch, and Naz's movement was good. We're learning how to use that and at times the timing of his runs could be better, but we felt that in the 1-v-1 moments we felt those three could be dangerous - and then we knew we had Romaine to come on as well." BA POSITIONING "I thought Abdoullah found it difficult in the first half, we moved him slightly wider in the second and then ultimately Jobe came on and scored from that position. The idea in principle was right to overload that side, and I think they are going to have find a way to play together if they're going to play. They've got to learn that they're stronger together and play in combinations, I think if you're a right-sided defender and you have to come up against Jack and Abdoullah, it becomes very difficult to double up on Jack." PLENTY OF OPTIONS NOW "So we're looking at different options all the time, they all want to be in the team so we have to find the balance, and I'm really pleased with Romaine who has shown that he has got a part to play. It's really good to have Paddy back, we of course have to manage his minutes in the next two games because we don't want a relapse of his injury. So Abdoullah could easily go back to the right tomorrow night, for example." GAMES OPEN UP TOWARD THE END "It's interesting with Paddy and players like that, because they want to be on the pitch when the game opens up in the last 25 minutes or so. So if he was to start tomorrow it might be Abdoullah who is on during that spell, it might be a Jobe. Someone like Paddy, if we can get him 1-v-1... we want to feed these guys early because the more we can do that and play with 1-v-1, I think we're a team with more options than one or two others." 90 MINS OF INTENSITY "We lost Paddy in the first 20 minutes in my third game and there's been a lot of football played since then where we've not had that extra option. Now all of a sudden we've got Paddy back, Abdoullah and Romaine, Callum Styles back in training, hopefully Bradley back before long... It enables us to play with the same intensity for 90 minutes and it's about giving the opposition other problems to solve. I'm not sure Plymouth would have guessed our starting XI and that's important, adding something a little bit different to keep other teams guessing." TAKE RISKS AGAINST EVERYBODY "Every team has different strengths and we need to be wary of every one. We want to play with lots of style and freedom but there are other teams out there who look at it differently and have different strengths, with defensive compactness and set plays for example. Wins are going to be important, draws can be your nemesis a bit and at the moment, we're willing to take risks against everybody. We'll keep players up the pitch and trust in our defensive shape, hoping that when we turn it over we can get at you. You saw that against Stoke and Plymouth, we conceded one playing risk football but then scored two of our three doing it. That makes for exciting viewing."
