I can. We have 11.7% of our touches in our own penalty box. The median is 11.1%, we are eighth highest. We have 49.3% of our touches in our own third. The median is 45.3%, we are the seventh highest. The graphic that was doing the rounds on twitter is claptrap. Do we play it around at the back a lot? Undoubtedly. Do we do it far more than everyone else in the League? Absolutely not, we are upper mid-table for it at best.
No one's saying it's incorrect just incomplete data, hence the conversion to percentages to mitigate the differing number of games in the dataset.
there isn't a difference in the number of games, other than some teams having a game in hand. The #Pl stat in OLM's screenshot is "number of Players used in games".
I doubt it’s incomplete though is my point. How do we know the data put in here earlier that’s calculating us at just under 50 isn’t incomplete?
It's from FBref, they seem pretty reliable. Either way, such a massive discrepancy means someone is chatting ****e. The fact that the watford bloke didn't give any further explanation, sources or additional detail says a lot IMO.
Think tinpot has clarified that pl is players used not games played. To be fair though, the only stat that really matters is the one that has us 7th in the championship.
Couldn't disagree more. A constant theme of our home games is that the opposition often commit more players forward than we do. There's rarely any space to get a shot off as we seem to attack in twos and threes and are crying out for someone to break the lines beyond the striker (if indeed we actually play one).
7951 / 21,190 is closer to 40% than 49%. As defensive pen is in the defensive 3rd, it's pretty clearly a subset of that number, not an addition to it. If people aren't sure, they could add up defensive pen, defensive third, mid third, attacking third, attacking pen and see that it's a bigger number than total touches.
