on the play off thread i make it we need 28 points from the remaining games to be in the play offs (would give us 75 points which is historically good enough) - there's 45 points to play for, so even losing the odd game shouldnt really be a huge set back
I think we have to recognise that some of those who were/are critical and abusive towards Beale were/are actually after their main target....KS.
It was odd in that it wasn't the usual crowd desperate for him to go sacking. And on the goading - bollocks was it. There were more posts whingeing about people whingeing than I saw people whingeing.
He didn’t antagonise this supporter or many others. Players who were “thrown under the bus” seem unscathed. It takes time to change things with the way a team plays. People were just looking for any excuse to have a dig. And no, no one has encouraged me to “pile on”. I just think you’re wrong.
I don't really understand this either. I've said several times he doesn't strike me as the kind of bloke I'd want to go for a pint with but he's doing a good job so his character doesn't matter in the slightest.
He thinks he can dismiss anyone who shares my opinion as a clique that I control ... ... that's a real insult to your intelligence tbh. You've disagreed with me, when you've seen fit, and so do other people. Claiming people only disagree with him because 'Smug' has issued his decree is incredibly childish.
Ironically those who attacked him, so relentlessly, have shot themselves in both feet. They've inadvertently generated Beale a great deal of sympathy and allowed him to demonstrate just how cool and calculated he can be under great pressure ... ... while showing how easily some supporters crack under the slightest pressure and become hysterical.
Definitely think that's true. After the **** flung at him, I'm delighted for Beale that he's getting results and performances.
As I think you're wrong. I don't consider it some kind of personal slight that must be 'avenged' as soon as events turns however.
This is all quite subjective, though. There has always been a gameplan, it just took the players a while to get used to it and properly implement it. I'm not sure what you mean by "no gameplan", really - it sort of implies that he gave the players no instructions and they just ran around and did their won thing... It looked nothing like that any point of his tenure to me, albeit the plan didn't always pan out the way we would have liked, early doors. I didn't feel he "threw players under the bus", I always thought his comments were quite fair. Some players weren't performing to the standard they can (as evidenced by recent performances), and he made that clear rather than just "happy clapping" them. The players themselves don't appear to have taken too much offense, either. As far as I saw on social media, the only supporters he antagonised were those who had it out for him from day 1... I and many, many others took no offense to what he said whatsoever. And, to be fair, you predicted we would end up in the bottom 3rd of the table, which looks almost impossible now. At some piont, I think people need to just hold their hands up and say "you know what, I got this one wrong"...
Neither do I but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with calling out the hysteria of a few weeks back.
Mowbrays sacking in fairness had fa to do with Beale and Managing Rangers is really a ticking time bomb and in my opinion didn’t say anything wrong
I won't quote anyone but there were some who didn't want Beale because he'd only managed two clubs ... ... but wanted to give the job to Dodds who'd managed no one. I honestly believe the transfer window and Newcastle match contributed to much of the hysteria. If Mowbray had resigned, in May after failing to get us promoted, then we'd signed a big name striker and a CDM I doubt there'd have been all this bile and hatred. In my opinion it made us look worse than the BCB affair. It made me cringe when the TV commentators said the fans wanted Beale out as the players took the field for the Stoke game. Thankfully those who wanted Beale sacked have calmed down ... ... until we lose at Huddersfield
Sorry if everybody doesn't agree with this, but we (mods) have discussed this and we're sick of the almost constant goading (and stalking) that's deliberately disrupting threads, so The Exile is 'no more'
Was just about to post the same, think he's bored brunt of some fans frustration which has stemmed from the mags game and the transfer window.
In all honesty I didn't want Beale and still don't. In fact I didn't want Mowbray, Neil, Johnson, Ross, di Canio, Keane, etc etc etc etc. What I want is someone totally professional and dedicated like Potter but that's not going to happen. Two years back, when we were being humiliated at Cheltenham, I wanted to be in the Championship with some better players and stabilising. We now have much better players and are in with a chance of the PL. Championship clubs don't often attract top managers so I'm trying to be patient. It's difficult but I'd settle for another glorious defeat at Wembley or even the play-offs at the moment. One of two things will happen if we don't go up. The majority of players will stay and, with another season's experience, have a real go next year with a couple more clever signings ... ... or we'll cash in on a couple of our high value players and use that money to replace and strengthen. The only negative scenario would be sell and promote from within which would weaken us imo. I really don't believe that will happen but all three scenarios leave us totally sustainable.
I didn't know who he was so was underwhelmed by the appointment but thought he deserved a chance as every appointment Speakman and kld have made from Johnson onwards has been an improvement so they had trust there that this could be an improvement on Mowbray. If it carries on like the 2nd half against Plymouth I think they may have got it right again. If we got play offs again that would be great but at the start of the season I said top 8 would be a good season. I'm expecting Clarke to go in the summer unless we go up and suspect rusyn would be his replacement with maybe mundle playing a handful of games too, both will be settle here by then. But like you say whatever we make needs to be reinvested in the squad or we'll at best standstill.
