3-1 loss and another poor dour toothless performance. Reverse psychology because being positive expecting us to win and play well just isn't working.
I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be an absolute shocker and the fan base will be extremely disgruntled talking about new managers.
I'm torn on this one. We've bounced back from bad performances various times this season so should be able to do it again. But let's be honest, overall we're on a fairly poor run at the moment of a few 'mediocre at best' performances and we're creating less chances than ever, so something big has to change for this game. Plus, we're a charity for teams.
My personal opinion is if we dont get a performance our traveling fans deserve....we should seriously think of replacing rosenior...we have some great players no doubt on that one...but he's struggling to get a tune out of them...so maybe time to change
LR Unaccustomed to setting up an attacking team - Sees the game from defensive experience and has since training camp moulded a temperance of playing out defensively & will not be able to change that mould / hold over the style of the team. Therefore instructing the team in parts to attack as a Plan 'B' Isn't in the set up psychology and LR is unable to convey that to the players with any real result
"If you ask the players, what I spoke to them about before the game, it was about detail, marking on set plays, making sure on restarts that we're in the right place. All of those things add up to a poor performance. "There's a lot of analysis that needs to happen, the players included and then we make sure we put it right on Tuesday." "I told them honestly, I always try to be as honest as possible," he said. "There's been times when we've won and I've not been happy with the performance. There's been times when we've lost and I've been happy with the performance. We lost and I was unhappy with the performance and I told them that and I told them what we need to improve on. "We have to bounce back from the setback. This is the Championship. We're still in a really, really good position to achieve what we want to achieve, but we need to learn on the job and make sure we're right on Tuesday."
After our shocking performance on Saturday there as to be a good response, it won’t be as easy as some think but it’s down to the team to get on with it, improve all over the pitch, Down the middle that’s midfield and forward line it was awful. We have two good wingers who didn’t look good on Saturday and they have to make up for it and have a massive part to play. Rotherham are bottom for a reason, however they are at home and have had some decent results. Three away games now and because of Saturday we need to win two, Let’s hope the first one is tomorrow night.
I think a big part of the problem for our wingers is that they are receiving the ball to feet whilst often having their backs to the goal. They're immediately under pressure from defenders who have ambled back into position while we pass the ball backwards and sideways. A ball into the space behind the defensive line would give them a much better chance to break through towards the dead ball line or goal. This isn't an argument for a long ball approach but just for a quicker movement of the ball out of defence and through our midfield.
Our big problem. No proper no 9 after Delaps injury. Our second big problem, you don’t score goals in your own half and if you are spending 50 per cent of your time playing it around there it makes for no real momentum. Third big problem is Rosie overthinking everything. I like the lad but rather than debate the rights and wrongs the whole team looked like it needed a giant kick up the arse after the first half. We need to do things quicker and let a very good set of players just play.
Posts like this always seem to lack any basis in reality to me. Of course it would be better to pass to players behind the defence and in space, no one would argue with that. The problem is how to get into a position to do that. You can't just decide to have that pass available, and that is the reason why teams play out from the back and try to create space, rather than rushing it forward to a sea of bodies. On Saturday Swansea seemed to be better at not being pulled about than most teams we play, although we did still break through their press plenty of times, and on numerous occasions had the wingers, Carvalho, Tufan or Morton running into space up the middle, but it always fizzled out once it reached the penalty area. A few times it seemed like we didn't have any idea where to go or who to pass to from the edge of the box. Philogene two or three times got running with it and looked very similar to the position he scored from against Preston for example, but this time seemed unsure where to go, couldn't find a progressive pass and ended up dribbling sideways across the box into less and less space until eventually being tackled. I see this line on here a lot about defenders getting into position while we pass it around at the back - I think it's the opposite that often happens, especially on Saturday, they were getting back into position while we had the ball near their box but struggled to find a way into it. As I said after the game, execution was also a big issue. First touches and passes in key areas were terrible. I think as ever there are multiple reasons we struggled.
Biggest reason for this is lack of support. Philogene was frustrating the other day but sometimes there was nobody with him for 30 seconds or so. When we break it never seems to be more than 2 players maximum chasing up the pitch. That includes the man on the ball. We just get outnumbered too quickly as a result and part of that absolutely is due to playing it around at the back. We pull players deep to make them available for the pass and then when we do get it forwards occasionally we've too many men back that just can't, don't or won't push up as more of a unit.
