That Rothwell volley is probably the best goal I've seen a Saints player score in 20 odd years. Incredible.
Looking forward to reading through this thread! Walking back across the Itchen now. What a mental game. I’ve been for a 16 mile run and a dog walk this morning but that game is what has exhausted me! Lost my voice by about the 70th minute. WHAT A WIN! I ****ING LOVE FOOTBALL! COYR!!!
On my shopping trip with management today, when the phone chirped from Saints FC app and I saw that they'd scored again so soon after the first goal, I felt like this might just be the day to see the record go etc, but then I said to herself we score 4 at home so let's hope we do today!! She agreed as the afternoon was relatively young!!!!!
I knew this game was going to be difficult due to passed beef with the terriers fans back in the day, but feck I didn’t expect that! Well done to them, I hope other teams aren’t going set up like they did in the first half. Play like that and they don’t deserve to go down if they do I look forward to them bettering the skates on their way back up. COYR
It’s not the percentage that counts it’s what is done when you have the ball. However getting the opposing team knackered is an advantage.
What a ****ing game!, it was like a throwback to the Lawrie Mac days, we have so many great attacking options that we will surely not be out of any match. Credit to 'Udders, the first half was all about them coming at us and they deservedly lead at HT, ( the booing was disgraceful and so entitled from some fans..), something that no team have done recently and they were the best team since Leicester to come here. Plenty of selection headaches for Russ moving forward but what a problem to have!
At half time someone messaged admin at Saintsplayer saying that there was something wrong with their stream as it said Saints were losing 0-2. Admin messaged back saying that they had reported it to Tech and it should be back to normal at 4-2 in 40 minutes. They didn’t get the score right but they might be doing something right.
I was going to post about how often our style of play sees opponents being treated for cramp, sometimes relatively early (70 minute mark), so I was interested to see a Huddersfield player needing treatment for cramp even though we weren’t dominant and moving them around the field. Just shows how much effort needs to go into containing us and then hitting us on the break, as they did today.
Just in the Station catching up on the thread. Wow, there’s a lot of negs on here at HT. One of the most topsy turvy games I’ve seen at SMS. Magical! Never in doubt!
Just got in and I feel completely and utterly exhausted. Feels like I've been to a boxing match rather than football. And instead of spectating I was punched about the ring for two hours. Can't even begin to think about reading through the thread and rationalising some thoughts about the game right now. Will have to do that later.
Just got back and I'll try summing up my thoughts a bit better than I did while at the game! While Huddersfield were excellent in the first half, we were awful. I wanted Brooks to start and Adarma through the middle for this one and that showing from Adams just backed my thoughts up. He wasn't just bad, he was inept. Couldn't hold the ball up, first touch all over the place, couldn't make a simple pass. It would be unfair to place all the blame on that first half on him but I thought he was particularly bad. Second half we came out firing, Russell Martin clearly got the hairdryer out! I think the manner of Rothwell's goal just lifted the entire stadium and then we scored another a minute later. Even when Huddersfield got a fluky third goal I wasn't too worried - Huddersfield were starting to tire and we brought on Mara, Edozie and Sulemana. Brooks was awesome. Some of the passes he made were top quality. Loved the mentality second half from everyone. It did get a bit open at 3-3 but there was no way we were settling for a draw! I've always liked Mara so was thrilled to see him get the crucial 4th goal. And Sam made it be relatively stress free 13 mins of added time! Huddersfield were definitely one of the more impressive teams to come to St Mary's but their time wasting was ridiculous. Mind you it's down to the referee to stamp it out and he was shocking.
Incredible game and comeback but thinking bigger picture, how much damage has today done in terms of injuries. We'll miss Stu but at least we are well covered. Downes however could be the difference between 2nd and 3rd. Reqlly hope its not too serious
