I think you’re right, the publicity during his Everton days had more to do with the situation than his abilities as a footballer.

At the time he seemed legit, his official Premier League debut was against us and he looked the part. He’d played in a European match before that. I think he was 16, 17. It’d only been a few years since they’d sold Rooney to Man United and that added a bit hype to proceedings. The Next Rooney, even though he was a defender/midfielder.

He had a few run-outs after that. He didn’t look nervous or out of place but he didn’t actually do anything either.

He got injured (hamstring), recovered, inexplicably Capello selected him for the England team then more hamstring bother.

He’s always had a talent for looking comfortable on a football pitch, like the bloke who sneaked into Man United’s lineup and nearly got lamped by Roy Keane <laugh>

Grayson is the worst manager I can ever remember.
Wilkinson and McMenemuppet were head and shoulders above the clown.
He's blaming the fans for his shìtshow.
I wouldn't have had him coaching my son at schoolboy level the tit.
