As the title says, what would be your best team, bench and manager based on performances in the Championship? (minimum 25 games).

    GK: Niemi, Davis, Bazunu.
    RB: Baird, Ostlund, Richardson, Walker-Peters.
    LB: Bale, Thomas, Fox, Manning.
CB: Lundekvam, Powell, Perry, Fonte, Hooiveld, Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek.
DM/CM/AM/RM/LM: Oakley, Surman, Viafara, Skacel, Schneiderlin, Cork, Chaplow, Hammond, Downes, Smallbone, S.Armstrong.
RW/LW/CF: Wright-Phillips, Rasiak, Saganowski, Jones, John, Lallana, Lambert, Do Prado, Fraser, Adams, A. Armstrong.
    MANAGER: Burley, Adkins, Martin.

Sorry if i've missed any players, Billy Sharp is a tough one, obviously helped us get up but only played 11 games.

I'm working on how well they produced (producing) in the Championship rather than how good they were prior or became (e.g. Lundekvam is a legend but not in the Championship)

    GK: Davis
    RB: Walker-Peters
    LB: Bale
    CB: Fonte, Harwood-Bellis
    CM: Schneiderlin, Downes, Hammond
    RW: A.Armstrong
    LW: Lallana
    CF: Lambert

    Manager: Adkins

My ones that were very close were Cork, S.Armstrong and Martin for manager.

    RB: KWP
    LB: Bale

Manager: Nigel (just, but Russ could overtake him by the end of the season)

From the second división, 1978-1978, my midfield trío in any era would be Ball, Williams and Holmes!!

Good call Ides but i'm buggered if I was going to go back over the last century of Saints second tier footy to find players!

My mistake - it was 77-78 and they continued to be the midfield trío after promotion was gained for a number of years

10 names are easy for me (with Adkins as manager): Niemi, KWP, Fonte, THB, Bale, Schneiderlin, Cork, Stu, Lallana, Lambert.

The 11th I'm really struggling to deciding who to with. Adam, Rasiak, Surman, Fraser, Downes, Saganowski, Chaplow. I suppose it depends on what formation I'd play.

(Niemi is very much there because of what he did in the PL, rather than his short Championship stint. He must have only just squeezed to 25 games.)

I find it difficult to seperate some of these players performance levels from Championship/PL. For example, and I could be wrong here, but I thought Schneiderlin really grew with us as a player, but he was at his best in the PL and wasn't as vital a cog of the team in the Championship? Whereas I think Lallana and Lambert were equally brilliant for us in both leagues. SKD was brilliant in the Championship but awful in the PL. Niemi phenomenal in the PL, but I have no recollection of how he was for us in the Champinship. Hooiveld was a monster for us in the Championship and scored 7 goals too but many fans opinion of him is marred by the fact that he was not up to it at PL level. Some positions are pretty straight forward but others I'm pretty stuck on!

Schneiderlin was the best player on the pitch when we played United in the cup. We were in League 1 at the time.

Everyone had an opinion on which 2 of Cork, Schneiderlin and Hammond should play. Every pairing has its merits and drawbacks, for example Schneiderlin and Cork were (in my opinion) the best two players but Hammond the best leader.

I think that by the Championship season you could see the thoroughbred footballer Morgan was going to become for us but I remember his form being a little patchy in League 1.

I notice a lot of people have Stu in their Championship team. He was brilliant for us in the Prem but i don't think he has torn this season apart this year. Love him as a player but the output of 29 games with 3 goals and 4 assists has not been great.
The below all had better outputs.
    Guly Apps 42 goals 10 Assists 6
    Fraser Apps 25 Goals 5 Assists 2

Have to disagree and he plays a deeper role than your comparisons. He’s so important in how we play in getting the ball from midfield into dangerous areas.
I put him and KWP as the two who have demonstrated their premier league quality from the start of the season.

Slight change to my line up, Downes gets in ahead of Morgan because I believe he was more important to our promotion.
Oh and Russell just pips Nigel too.
