Interesting comment. I didn't like the way the whole Broadhead situation played out either with Neil essentially questioning his mental strength in a press conference and Broadheads Mam liking tweets about Neil being the real reason he didn't come back here on loan, only for Neil to do what he did in leaving us. Will always be appreciative for getting us promoted but the way he left and the things that have came out make me glad he's nowhere near the club anymore.
I was in the Dunn Cow with the other half as it was her Birthday, had a meal in The Botanist, there seemed to be loads going into the empire, I assume it was a sell out?
It was very good, I love squid, most places just give you those ****e squid rings, this is the best squid I have had in England. Our lass had some hanging chicken skewer thing which she loved. I have to admit to nearly crying when I see the price of a pint over £6
I tried to get the cheaper pint, which was only £5.60, but they didnt have it! Talking about the price of drinks, my sister runs a market stall, I was down in Bedale watching the boro game, she gave me loads of cans of coke, £5 for 24 she got them for from another stall holder. £10 plus in Asda!!!!! its cheaper to buy stella! I will stick to stella
aye mate been out here a month back home in a couple days tho thank **** had enough of snow and minus temperatures ha
As much as we love Defoe he's always had that element to his character. He doesn't hang about where he's not wanted. He probably thought 'why do I need the aggravation?' and he was in a position to just retire rather than work himself to be away.
I find it bizarre that people use Neil as an example of why the club isn't been run properly ... ... just like Pritchard the bloke turned his back on the supporters and money seems to have been a major factor. Other flimsy reasons were thrown in but don't ring too true imo. As you say there many ways to leave a club, some like Gooch get it right.
We don't really know enough about it. Defoe wasn't the force he was, did he know it and was he hoping he would have enough left to help us but realised he didn't, did Neil want him, if he didn't that would affect his attitude towards him, lots of variables. Defoe was at least honourable in packing it in. He could have sat and got paid for the rest of his contract. I see the usual 'club is never wrong' narrative is winding up so I think that's as much as I'll contribute.
Peter Reid cemented his time here in probably the best era of the club in recent history to the point where if the club or team go on a great run with a feel good factor, people say "It's like the Peter Reid days".To have your name attached to an era like that and it still used to this day is something he and his family can be proud of.We won nothing of note but the late 90s early 2000s were some of the greatest times supporting Sunderland. I feel for the younger supporters that missed it. SKP, up there with the greats to pull on the Red and White. And as for DeFoe, we all know the scrip with him. Absolutely class.
I agree i think he realised his legs were gone, having watched him at rangers he looked poor and i think he did the decent thing in cancelling his contract
A different era back then mate. Managers and coaches were given time. I dont think Reid was a major coup when he came in during the relegation battle. It wasnt a massive lift if my memory serves. He got it done though and earned his job. Promotion next year was class, but then going down again was crap. It was no way to say goodbye to Roker. Not saying Reid did a poor job, but we werent a great side that year. Paul Stewart top scorer? Not many manageds would survive that sort of seasons these days, sadly. The next few years shows what you can do with a bit of patience in the main man though. He landed on Quinn and Phillips, which was the main ingredients. But he didnt half bring in some good midfielders. He could spot a central midfielder a mile off. A lot of happy days following that team, with a few lows as well to boot.
