This could be an amazing step in detecting breast cancer early. A spit test for breast cancer which gives results in under five seconds has been created by scientists. The hand-held device costs just £3.95 and each test strip just a few pence. It detects cancer biomarkers like genes and proteins in the saliva using electricity pulses. Test results clearly distinguished healthy women from those with the disease, say experts. They hope the device will replace established but costly mammograms, ultrasounds and MRIs. PhD student Hsiao-Hsuan Wan of the University of Florida said: “We are excited about the impact it will have in poorer areas.”
