The Saints' remarkable unbeaten run continued at Rotherham United on the weekend, whilst the Hornets suffered a disappointing defeat against Cardiff City in Hertfordshire. Following Matheus Martin's opener for Watford in the original tie on January 28, it looked as if Southampton's unbeaten streak was coming to a disappointing end at Vicarage Road, however Stuart Armstrong's deceiving effort was enough to book his side's spot in the fifth-round draw. Which side most wants to progress to the next round, and a trip to Anfield, remains to be seen, but a return to the EPL is probably the main priority for both sides. Of course, Watford would probably like a payday with a visit to Liverpool. Team News We do know that Dennis will not travel to the south coast, as he will be spending the whole week on the training ground in an effort to improve his fitness. The trouble is that we don't really have a second string team. Some players come in, then go out, but it seems that giving players some game time has brought about this movement.
Our players look like they need a rest, and we'll get thumped by Liverpool anyway. I would basically put out the under 21s/fringe players. Of course would be nice to win on the night to stop the slump and get some more money by getting to the next round, but if we lose it's no big deal given the draw. Wouldn't be surprised if Southampton think the same. If the draw for the next round was kinder and/or we had good momentum in the league, I would have wanted to play a strong team, but I don't think that's sensible.
Thanks OFH, maybe we will go for it. I hadn't thought the money benefits of getting whooped at Anfield.
Dennis not going https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sport/24098587.dennis-not-watford-party-travelling-southampton/
Thanks to Andrew French. A little bit about Nabizada (who isn't 17 until June). The first-year scholar joined Watford after starting his career at Brentford, generally plays down the flanks and has been a regular scorer for Tom Cleverley's Under-18s during the first half of the season.
Looks like we might be going for a win - I was expecting a few surprise selections in the starting side rather than just one in the bench. Looks like there's no terrestrial TV coverage at all - anyone know of a possible stream?
This is advertised, but too early to see if it works. http://www.fawanews.com/Southampton vs Watford.html
