Surely the big event, of the morrow, is not on the track but in the sales ring as we see the Caldwell (or Brown) Dispersal Sale at Tattersalls Ireland. Some real top notchers being sold as well as some potentially brilliant unraced stock. For me the highlights would be: (i) Fil D'Or - really like this horse and think he can take very, very high rank over fences. Dare I mention the '24 Ryanair. But even if he's not aimed at this looks a Grade 1 winner in waiting. (ii) Pied Piper - will new connections ditch / put on hold (delete as appropriate) his hurdling career and aim him at Cup races on the level in '24??? I would. (iii) Chantry House's, unnamed and unraced, 4YO full brother - potentially a hugely, hugely exciting individual. Could he end up at Seven Barrows with dear old Chantry House?!? A really exciting event and am really looking forward to seeing the Sales results. And, of course, the future plans from new connections.
MARTATOR 14.02 Car 9/4 bumped into a decent one last time which endorsed the formbook next time. Price won't last more a 7/4 chance.
Rumours are circling mad that you may make an appearance at auction Sir Barney, with some very full briefcases of the King's finest bank notes. To be all passed on to the forums favourite trainer then, of course.
I see Elliott gives both Stattler and Coko Beach their public debuts over XC fences today. Should have it between them on ratings but there’s a Bolger XC debutant in the field too. Rated 2 stone+ below the Elliott pair Genois is a 20/1 chance. Bolger wins this race 2 in 3 years including the last 3 renewals. Maybe it’s somebody else’s turn but I’ll go ew on Genois. The other one I’ll have today is Applaus ew @ 16/1 at Carlisle. Won this race last year and weighted to give a good account again after a little break. Good luck anyone having a dabble today.
Stattler still with the GOAT Chan - Ronnie Bartlett has too much class to have a horse with that fecker Elliott
**who is? My personal favourite trainers are Willie Mullins (a perfect gentleman), Henry de Bromhead (fine trainer and likeable guy, and no stranger to personal tragedy not so long ago, with the loss of his young son), and the UK's own Paul Nicholls (a brilliant trainer, but his great sadness on losing one of his very best work riders, Keagan Kirkby, killed in an off-duty P2P event at the far too young age of 25, moved me to tears, and proved to me what a good and sensitive man he is). He quite obviously thinks the world of his staff at Ditcheat and fully appreciates their hard-work in making the stable such a successful one. It must have been awful for Paul, in what should have been a happy day on his very first visit to Musselburgh. Condolences to Keagan Kirkby's family, friends and colleagues. R.I.P. Keagan lad.
But not since „that“ photo I think? Might be wrong though ……I know he left Galvin with him but I think he has avoided him with new purchases? Could be coincidence though and I might be attributing class where it isn’t deserved
If I had to buy just one it would probably be Pied Piper as potentially the rewards could be much, much higher (Cup races and even mega rich handicaps on the level). I'd probably send him to Simon Charlton who has just, fully, taken over the reins (no pun intended) at Beckhampton. Given current funds in the Chuckles bank account though sadly a bid from me won't be forthcoming. But yes the other 2 I mentioned would (if I was fortunate to buy them) be seven Barrows bound. Meanwhile, I note that the Racing Post website is, right now, pontificating over whether Caldwell Potter will be the first National Hunt horse to fetch €1,000,000 (or more) at public auction.
Very, very sad to see that dear old Hardy Eustace has died - at the age of 27. He was one of my all time favourite horses of all time and I've a picture of him, at home, jumping the last on his way to winning the '05 Champion Hurdle. A lot was made of that being the race that Harchibald lost but let me just say that in that Champion Hurdle no horse was ever going to get past Hardy Eustace one of the most gutsy and tough animals ever born. His battling qualities were second to none. It has though been great to read how long and happy a retirement Hardy Eustace enjoyed.
In Div.1 of the (19:00) at Southwell, a Class-6 event over an extended 2m on the Tapeta surface, the Intello gelding, Ghadbbaan, has a sporting chance of a podium finish. Ran quite a good race on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton 16-days ago. Apprentice, Archie Young (7), takes the ride again for this fairly recent arrival to the S. England stable. 5/1 (Uniibet/BetVictor) best price on the ATR site at time of writing. E/W preferred option. (Update: Just noticed best price on Oddschecker right now is 7/1 in many places. That's pretty good odds)
He was very gutsy indeed Barney. Havent checked but I’m pretty sure his first Champion Hurdle win was at a whopping 33/1
Nice spot on Genois. Not sure if you've ever seen the set up at Enda Bolger's but it is a haven for Cross Country, which explains why he excels most of the time in that discipline. Coko Beach be full steam ahead for Aintree now?
