Not surprised. He took a really heavy challenge in the second half (didn't even get a free kick) and limped through the rest of the game, obviously wanting to see the game our for his mates. Said to my son on the way home that that probably ruled him out for Sunday, so definitely now knowing that <wah>

    Sunderland AFC 1-2 Swindon Town
Sunderland AFC Under-18s exited the FA Youth Cup following a 2-1 home defeat to Swindon Town.
George Alston and Botan Ameen were both on target for the Robins within the first five minutes of the game. Trey Ogunsuyi pulled one back with a right-footed effort into the side netting, 15 minutes before the break.
It was the visitors who took the lead with 40 seconds on the clock. A defensive mix-up in the penalty area and the ball fell to the Alston to strike first for Swindon.
A second for Sean Wood’s side came just five minutes later. Despite a superb double-save from Matty Young, Ameen volleyed in the rebound to put his side two to the good.
The Lads went closest after 20 minutes when Chris Rigg stepped up and struck the woodwork with a free-kick around 20-yards out.
The Black Cats pulled one back a third of the game through. Tom Lavery drove towards the Swindon defence before playing in Ogunsuyi to finish beyond Redman Evans.
Jordan Moore’s side started the second half strong and a well-timed block from Ali Stewart denied Tommy Watson snatching an equaliser on 50 minutes.
Joseph Neil made an instant impact off the bench with a whipped ball across that could only be turned over by Ben Creamer with four minutes to play.
Despite the continuous pressure, it was the visitors who held on to advance to the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup.
Sunderland AFC: Young, Lavery, Bell, J.Jones (Neil 83), Jones, Beattie, Creamer, Whittaker (Mitchell 70), Rigg, Ogunsuyi, Watson
Unused substitutes: Cameron, Sekete, Obolo, Chung, Kindon.

I agree. The game should only have been stopped if any danger to the players or public was involved. The matter of racism should rightly be dealt with swiftly by the law . In this particular game the ref should have paid closer attention to the Swindon players tactics.

Got to say I’m completely on the other side. There’s no place for racism in football or society. Stopping the game sends that message loud and clear. If any of our players gets racially abused at a match I’m 100% behind the team walking off the pitch. After decades of trying a few idiots still think it’s acceptable. They need to learn that behaviour is completely incompatible with football.

Of course they do, believe it or not I am all for a multicultural society, and have every reason to be grateful for friends from abroad of all creeds and colours that I have made along the way. But the stopping of the U21 game was a mystery at the time, and I still think the stewards or police at the game should be able to deal with whoever it was causing the problem.
I have read since that the correct procedure was followed so fair do's. <ok> we will see how it works out.

Youngest son has just come in after watching all todays games at the local pub where he was talking to Ben Creamers dad. Apparently one of the U21 coaches (Murty?) had a right go at some of them (4 in particular) after Friday nights game, telling them if they want to progress into the U21s/ first team then that wasn't good enough.

Nothing wrong with that if done in the right context.

I only watched the 2nd half and thought Trey and Watson were passengers for most of it.

We were there and Watson was anonymous for most of it and when he got the ball didn't do much with it apart from a couple of runs first half. Pulled out of challenges as well. They even swapped wings with him and Creamer for a while and he did nothing on that side either, so they swapped him back.
Really disappointing because I was really looking forward to see him live after being impressed with what I have seen on TV.

If they want to step up they've gotta be ruthless. That was a game for them to stand up and show their quality.

Watson was poor. Creamer was probably motm for us down the right hand side. Was impressed with him, one touch then whip it in is all it takes.

He had the full back beaten for pace - pity about his miss which he has said he still doesn't know how he missed it. However, as his dad told him, at least he got into a position to miss it (a bit like Ba today).

There is a gap in the market for a winger like him tbf. He put it on a plate for Quinny many times tbh.

Silk like Clarke but also delivery like Summerbee? Imagine that :emoticon-0104-surpr

He had his full back on toast all game. The lad played well, if you know him, tell him he definitely has a shot at making it.

Wingers rinsing their full backs gets people off their seats. Fact. :emoticon-0148-yes:
