Some players just don’t step up a level, Mehmeti is one of those players, he looked really good in L1, doesn’t cut the mustard in the championship. Nige figured it out, LM is finding it as well. He just isn’t good enough for the championship.
The football under NP might not have been pretty or exciting but he had 99.9 percent of fans on his side, he had a vision and bought togetherness and although it was small we were progressing. The main issue though is the three clowns above who think they are bigger than the club itself. We won’t see any major progress with them in charge but they’ll continue to spout nonsense and say things are very exciting when we can all see what’s happening infront of us.
We’re a selling club who get very good money for selling our best players The trouble is the best players are replaced by ones with less ability Unless the policy changes then our fortunes on the pitch won’t Underwhelmed and unconvinced by Manning as well so far
Actually the 5 pillars thing was quite sound! Problem was that the situation was mis interpretted because one of the pillars was to nurture players for the team's future squad at a minimal cost [ academy buy in "cheap" then improve to sell excess ............ well the value placed on those sold [ which destroyed the pillar! ] was to tempting. Hindsight is amazing, especially when something like covid comes along and doesnt just shake 1 pillar it shakes them all to the point of collapse. Here Hindsight is a positive and a negative ..... [ if you need explanation ask! ]
I quite like what Manning is trying to do. The entertainment value has improved imho. The issue as I see it is that we haven’t got a natural goal scorer. We could also mention Max - I personally think he saves us more than he costs us in mistakes - but whether you agree with me or no, we still need competition for that jersey - to keep pressure on Max but also to step in if he becomes unavailable.
I didn't want Nige sacked mainly because I think he did a reasonable job of sorting out the attitude of players and I didn't think we were in danger of relegation. However I don't think he was ever good enough to take us up. Some of the performances were dire. Yes he has promotion on his CV but the game has moved on and he was yesterdays man, happens to us all. I like what LM is trying to do, but (and it's a big but) I don't think a number of the players are good enough to execute it. See Leeds for example, but there squad is worth?? I am quite excited by the signings in Jan ( more needed ) and look forward to when they graduate to the first team. Let's not forget Nige signed Simpson and Cornick FFS.
As did Tinnion, and he’s still here, and behind the signings you are so excited about, do you not see a flaw in your logic?
Not at all, Tinnion wasn't DOF, just in charge of the academy when Simpson and Cornick were signed, and do you think your precious Nige would have agreed to them if he didn't want them??
Not at all sure how much the likes of Cornick and Simpson cost us. Raver, bet your life Manning will not be shopping in Aldi as was N P. He'll get shed loads, just to save Tinnion and JL.
What warchest was he given? A free signing from Derby, and a kid on loan. Absolutely peanuts compared to the millions given to Nige in the summer. You (and many others on here) were seduced, and still are by Pearson’s past record. He did next to nothing for us, let everyone leave for free and played players out of position routinely (he ruined Weimann). His next post - if he gets one will be the marker.
RP I don't think we are miles apart. LM may get more to spend. I think that is largely down to the belief of the powers that be who will spend it better and / or the fact that to get us out of the division the quality needs to be improved. Personally I didn't see Nige getting us up as much as I liked him. Improving the quality is something I have seen you comment on frequently and I agree
LM would love the luxury of Aldi that Nige had, he’s had to shop in Oxfam this window. Not sure what Cornick has cost us, the chance to bring in a better forward. Simpson we know was on £10k a week, which should have been a steal. Instead he was the one stealing a living. To be fair to Nige, he got turned over by someone he trusted in Simpson.
Sides to the Prem? Dont you mean SIDE as in one. So did Paul Jewel , Phil Brown Mick McCarthy and even Ian Holloway. Is that your benchmark. We know Leicester went onto win the Prem but can you honestly say hand on heart they would have if Nige was still there? Some won’t and will never take to LM simply because Nige was sacked. Some of you ran a business and how would you like to be called out by your employers? Or to employees if you called out the company employing you would you expect to get off with it?
To replace players of Semenyo would cost £10 million. Do you know who said that? It was Nige. So how are we going to get anything else than less quality and that would also be true to Scott as well. If we was not a selling club we would not be playing as we would not be able to trade unless we whacked ST and pay on the day ticket prices right up. Every club are selling clubs that’s how they keep going in from mid Prem, championship and below.
