Good Morning. It's Friday 2nd February, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Roberts move made sense for all parties

There was a sigh of relief around Elland Road as Connor Roberts finally put pen to paper, signing on loan until the end of the season, and no ties.

The move hinged on the Clarets tying up a deal for replacement right back Frenchman Lorenz Assignon, and with just less than a hour on the clock, the dominoes fell into place.

Both clubs have effectively strengthened their squads; but for Roberts, the move was ideal. Burnley is only circa an hours drive to Leeds, meaning he doesn't need to up sticks, and disrupt his family life.

He is also close friends with Wales teammates Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon and Dan James. His friendship with the latter two stretches back even further, to their Swansea City days together.

Cherries want to make Sinisterra move permanent

Bournemouth are keen to make Luis Sinisterra's loan move permanent according to the back pages of the papers.

The 24yo inverted winger joined the South Cost outfit on a season long loan on the final day of the Summer transfer window. Leeds tried to block the move, but threats of legal action saw the Whites back off.

Andoni Iraola is said to have been impressed with what he has seen so far from the Columbian International. They have an option at the end of the season, allowing them to move the move permanent for a set fee, believed to be £20m.

    The one that got away

Speaking on the Square Ball Podcast, Elland Road journalist Phil Hay revealed that Leeds came agonisingly close to signing Daiki Hashioka, before the Japanese star suffered an ankle injury whilst playing for previous club Sint-Truiden.

Leeds 'really liked him', and had even started to prepare the paperwork, but wanted someone that they could count on, to make an immediate impact on the team.

He said: “It was a strange one that. I got in touch with someone who I was pretty sure would know, and he said he’s going to the Premier League and signing for Luton.

“That was gone before it materialised publicly, but the story they told me from the Leeds end was that they really liked him, they were very tempted to do it and starting getting paperwork together.

“He got an ankle injury in a game in Belgium and were worried about the risk of recurrence, the message was they needed players they could count on to come into the team immediately.”

    McGurk departs

Sean McGurk has joined League Two outfit Swindon Town on a free transfer.

Leeds were full of expectations when the fiery redhead joined from Wigan in the Summer of 2021, not long after Joffy had arrived. As Wigan were in administration at the time, Leeds managed to negotiate a fee of just £175,000 for the then 18yo, but despite catching the eye, never quite did enough to make the first team squad.

He joins Ian Poveda (Sheffield Wednesday), Jack Jenkins (Halifax Town), Leo Hjelde (Sunderland), Lewis Bate (MK Dons) and Luke Ayling (Boro) out of the Elland Road exit door.. Whilst Poveda, Bate and Ayling signed loan deals, their respective contracts come to an end this Summer.

Darko Gyabi will see out the season on loan with Plymouth Argyle, whilst similarly Jeremiah Mullen will enjoy some first team football with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

    Morning all

The club are twats making us wait till after 11pm to announce the signing of Roberts.

If Bournemouth wants Sini, then I don't think any fan will be disappointed to see him go after the BS he pulled over the summer.

McGurk one for the future gone. It makes you wonder if the 49ers are considering the future and bringing the younger players through.

Ger Lynch (The View) pointed out yesterday that 49ers were looking to overhaul the playing squad. I think this window was the start of it.

Anyone who's seen Connor Roberts play will be happy that he's signed as he's proven quality at this level. Also he never gives less than 100% and fights hard for his team in each and every match. Let's hope he gets his opportunity and seizes it because I'd like to see him nail down that right back slot for the remainder of the season.

Probably not but you should consider giving him some of your commission for the interest he generates on here by posting their articles :emoticon-0148-yes:

    I think you're being a little harsh
The club's negotiations are in line with what's best for the club, not your bedtime.

True, it's best Sinisterra leaves. There was talk last summer of a £30-40m fee, but after his less than stella season on the seaside, I guess £20m is a decent fee.

McGurk was getting too old for the U-21's, yet not good enough for the 1st team. If he still had a year or two on his contract, I'd agree with you and send him out on loan. But his contract was up this Summer. Would you have given a player a new contract, who couldn't make the match-day squad an couldn't play for the U-21's ?
That would just have been a waste of wages.

As Ger also pointed out, the club wants a squad to win promotion, but recognizes that this squad would not be good enough for the Premiership.
Odds are that Sheffield Utd, Luton and Burnley are the three teams to be relegated this season.

Find it difficult to believe there's a permanent option plus an agreed fee for Sinisterra as contractually we weren't obliged to do that.

Sounds more like a rumour that's gained traction to me.

That's not saying we want him back, but we would have been foolish not to retain the right to sell him to the highest bidder this summer, especially as players of his ability have gone for much much more than the £20M quoted.

Roberts a good signing, will be important for the run in

Sinisterra for £35m and it's a deal ... Blackburn just sold an unproven kid for £22m ffs

The Japanese lad was never coming to Leeds, only wanted Prem so Hay talks rubbish about it being close

Surprised McGurk was allowed to leave .. a genuine talent and at 20 still a lot of potential .. better than Poveda for me, would have thought the club would have kept him for 2 more seasons just to see how he develops
