In January/February/March we would be growing tomatoes in heated greenhouses and fuel prices spiked here as well. In Morocco it is still quite warm. They grow fruit and vegetables during our winter as it is too hot in the summer. Most of our seasonal workers come to work the land during the harvesting season; and for some reason we have not been able to get many of the Ukrainian guys that we used to fly here by the planeload.
Nope. Thanet Earth a little over two years ago trashed £320k worth of tomatoes, after that they didn't bother growing one season...nothing to do with fuel prices, they were all grown and left to rot. As for the 'and for some reason' bit, It's not like we weren't warned, prior to the month of the tomatoes being left to waste, the government were told there was going to be a Labour shortage, but nope, appeals made to the government fell on deaf ears. Btw I come from Kent.
