Hull City are delighted to announce the loan signing of attacking left-back Ryan Giles from Premier League side Luton Town.

The 24-year-old has joined on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign, with the club having the option to buy him permanently at the end of the season.

The full-back has made over 100 Championship appearances across loan spells with Coventry City, Rotherham United, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough.

Giles excelled at Boro last term, registering 12 assists in 48 appearances to help Michael Carrick’s men reach the play-offs.

Earning a club-record transfer to Luton Town last summer following their promotion to the top flight, 11 of Giles’ 14 appearances for the Hatters this season came in the Premier League.

The former England Under-20 international progressed through Wolves’ youth ranks, winning their 2017/18 academy player of the year, and has also had spells with Telford United and Shrewsbury Town.

Head coach Liam Rosenior said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Ryan is joining the club and that he’s decided to come here. He’s a top full-back at this level and we want to improve and develop him with us.

“He’s going to make a huge difference to our team, give us balance and a real attacking threat on the left side of the pitch.

“He has played a lot of Championship games, brings experience of promotion pushes, fits into our style of play and has outstanding athletic ability and technical quality in the final third.

“I like attacking full-backs and Ryan is one of the best in the league.”

I noticed the announcement was sponsored by Realtor Global.

We have really stepped up the number and profile of the sponsors we attract under Tan and Acun!

It feels like we are squeezing a bit of money out of everything we do as a club which is obviously amazing.

This is Previous transfer related, just goes to show sometimes not all transfers run smoothly and all it takes is one twat to put a spoke in.

“I think it was deliberate” – Frenchman believes someone intentionally scuppered Hull City transfer, had ‘already made plans’
    By Thomas Coast -
    30th January 2024
    • Announcing his retirement from football at the age of 33 after spending over a year without a club, Yannis Salibur did so without ever experiencing the game in England, despite having come close with a failed transfer to Hull City.

Philogene on his backheel goal: I love...

The move came about when he was still at Guingamp in France, back in 2017, and the former France U19 international saw it as the ideal chance to discover one of the best leagues in the world.

However, it all collapsed, and the chance of going to Hull City disappeared, which he discussed in an interview with Ouest-France on Tuesday.

Asked about his ‘aborted move’ to the Tigers, he said: “It was a very complicated period. I had a dream, and that was to play in Spain or England. I had this opportunity and I had already made plans. As I was at the peak of my career, I was waiting for this moment to move on and aim higher.

“And today, from the outside, I think there was a disagreement between the agents, the committees and the chairmen.”

Salibur was then asked if he felt someone intentionally pulled the plug on his transfer to Hull, or at least did something on purpose to ensure it didn’t happen.

He said: “I think it was deliberate. The paperwork wasn’t sent in on time, and that’s why I say you have to take a step back to judge a footballers’ career. There are a lot of non-sporting factors that come into play. Agents, presidents, intermediaries. The player is certain the main man, but there are so many people and so much at stake financially that they are not necessarily the only masters of their destiny.”

Despite never being able to play for Hull City, Salibur eventually did manage to play in Spain, as he played one year with RCD Mallorca between 2019 and 2020.

He then went to Fatih Karagümrük in Turkey, where he played for two seasons prior to him walking away and never finding a club again.
