Yeah think that’s surely him done. Clearly terrified of breaking his glass body. Barely broke into a jog all day.
Not sure Huddersfield pressed us that well, we played the most predictable, slow build up play allowing them to walk up to our back line (where we always take the ball). If a pub side did goal kicks like us they'd be crucified.
We'll have to agree to differ. They pressed really aggressively the whole game and it was hugely effective.
I agree they pressed, but we make it so easy for teams to press by constantly playing the same patterns. Where ever on the pitch we get the ball we keep passing it back until we can go no further then slowly play it forward to the Centrebacks, ideally waiting until they have 3 oposing players round them, preferably while they are looking the other way. I just want the keeper to look beyond a defender or a midfielder to play a forward pass when we are in the opposition half.
Managed to listen to the first half and watch the second. We were seriously poor. Can't understand why we always seem to raise our game against better sides and play so poorly against those around us. In truth I'm not too gutted given I'd have normally expected us to collapse after going a goal behind. I still trust Marti to do the best job possible with the current crop. Would love to see Chair played just behind the striker(s) instead of stuck out on the left, and hope to see Smyth starting soon. Field ban might force us into not playing Colback and Field together, which is pretty conservative given we need wins. I still think we'll get out of this, but I'm sanguine if we don't.
I agree, I thought their game plan was an aggressive press. Hopefully our new striker isn't put off by the lack of creativity in the team.
I think we are all hoping this new striker can put the ball in the net for us. My major concern is creating enough chances for him to do so. Can't see how anyone would have made much of a difference up top today.
He looks like he's just out of Scrubs after a GBH charge, imagine he won't be shy telling some of our players to stop fannying about and ping the ball imto the box for him to gobble up
Poncing about at the back. So when their press is proving so effective, wouldn't you stop playing to it? So many on here seem to be clinging on the to the hope that Cifuentes will prove to be some kind of football Messiah (and I still have to hope so too, but I remain utterly unconvinced ) but he was outthought today by someone many would think of as an old-fashioned coach. We were outplayed and Cifuentes didn't seem to know how to react.
Or didn't have the resources? We did punt the ball forward quite a bit and apart from the odd occasion it gave possession straight back to Huddersfield. We need a midfield or someone to drop into that area to receive the ball and break the press. We just aren't good enough however we play.
We seriously need some new blood in to freshen up the squad, but peanuts seems to get you nothing but cast-offs and sicknotes. I like what Marti is trying to implememt, problem is that he just has a gang of donkeys to do it for him
Well yes, we need to be able (or willing) to play the ball forward to someone on half-way who can either lay it off - preferably forward or sideways rather than backwards again - or turn his man to create an attacking situation. We just seem to alternate between sideways and backwards or a hoof upfield. What is he trying to implement? Whatever it is, it's not working.
