Unbeaten run continues and some minutes for youngsters and fringe players are the only positives really. Now we have a midweek replay to see if we can get another midweek game away half way up the country to play a team that will likely spank us regardless of how strong we go. Great.
Don’t need to go full first team for the replay but one would imagine there is a happy middle ground between the regular XI and what we had today. A game we could probably do without, but hopefully the club go cheap with the tickets. Also if we do go through there is probably a pretty good chance Liverpool away would be televised and although we would likely be thumped it would be a good test of how far we are against last season.
So long as we again rest almost everyone, I suppose I can bedrudingly be OK with it. But I really would have preferred to either win or lose. Also means that Watford no longer get a week off before a home game against Leicester. We maybe could have done with them resting up. But then again, maybe they might rest even more players for the replay than we hopefully do (because unlike us, they have a game this coming midweek - and now that we both know the "reward" will be a trip to Anfield, subject to Norwich not pulling off a great comeback, maybe Watford will just throw the replay altogether).
Pretty much the worst draw we could have got imo. Away and to Liverpool who will be going all out to win it 'for Klopp'. I know drawing keeps the unbeaten run going a little longer, but as great as that is, you don't get any prizes for an unbeaten run and nobody cares about it except us. I'm not sure I even want us to win the replay.
The fixture list has been kind to us in the sense that it's home to Huddersfield (after the midweek replay) and away to Birmingham (after the midweek 5th round game, should we progress). It could have been worse. But even so, we've got to taking maximum points from both those games. And that in itself brings pressure.
But where’s the romance? Wouldn’t it be great to stop them winning it for Klopp? Their main focus is the league too, but you wouldn’t know it from the team they have out there. There’s changes, but there’s a core to their team. It’s what we should have done/should do.
I just decided that a draw was the worst result….then we equalised . You can never honestly want Saints to lose even if it means an annoying replay.
It would be so Saints to go on a cup run now that very few actually want one! Happy for the away fans today, the feelgood factor is still there.
I think the club have invested heavily in the letters of his surname, across the back of his shirt, so they feel they have to play him. Or change his full name to be just 'Amo'
Totally agree. Liverpool want to win 4 trophies to give Klopp a good send off. Man City wanted to win 4 trophies and probably would have, had we not beaten them in the Carabou QF. Let’s ruin the party.
I'd prefer to beat them in the league next season. Romance of the cup is great and all, but I'd say it's more there for clubs lower down the pyramid and mid table teams that don't have anything to play for.* The Championship top 4 is the most competitive it's possibly ever been. We essentially would need a total rebuild next season if we don't get promotion this season. We would lose all the quality players we have right now which are a big part of what's made this season so fun. This season is our best chance at promotion, so all my eggs are in our league basket...and that means no extra midweek games that minimise recovery time, minimise prep time for league games, and increase the risk of injury to our key players. * I reserve the right to be a massive hypocrite and go to the final should we by some romantic miracle get there.
Don’t agree with this. He didn’t link up well going forward and struggled to get back. He had one good block but was awkward against their left wing, got turned and gave away the free kick that led to their goal
Again, look at the team United have out against Newport. Get the game won early, give the kids a half later.
I don't think this applies to Saints Vs Watford. Its not like we wpuld be 4-0 up if we would have started a couple more senior players. The youth need a chance to show what they can do and today was a good chance to do that.
